I am actually wondering the same thing. I have an excellent letter of recommendation from my professor that taught anatomy and physiology and he is a part time chiropractor. If anyone can answer the question it would be really helpful!
That's funny - because now I have the same question. My anatomy professor is also a part-time chiropractor! It never occurred to me that this might be seen as a negative. Is it?
OK...so this one guy has to write three Letters pretty soon, huh? j/k
Usually letters need to be written on an official letterhead. This emphasizes that s/he will be writing in his/her official capacity as a professor of anatomy and - most importantly - as a real, live, person who can comment about your behavior and performance in an academic setting.
I do not see any issue with him/her having D.C. behind their name(s).
I didn't seek my anatomy lecturer's recommendation for medical school. However, I wouldn't have hesitated because he only had a BS degree. Because I would say the same thing: I do not feel his degree is as important as his familiarity with you and your work during the course. Is this ideal? Of course not. Is it the end of the world? No. (IMHO)
EDIT: for clarification, I do acknowledge that there is a long and litigious past between Chiros and Medical doctors. I am actively trying to avoid a repeat of the inane Pre-Allo forum "discussion" (I use that term loosely 🙄) of whether chiros are doctors or not.
Yeah, the litigious past between Chiros and Medical doctors was why I was wondering whether it would be an issue. Didn't realize so many chiros teach anatomy! But hopefully you are right and adcoms will not hold that against us. Thanks!🙂
