I noticed that some schools only ask for 3 references and some have specific requirements such as 2 DMD + 1 instructor or 2 instructors + 1 Dentist in some cases. In order to cover all these requirements, I have 4 references. For those schools that only accept 3 references, do they just pick the ones that satisfy their requirement?

Thanks!

Which schools have the 2 DMD + 1 instructor requirement?

Midwestern could be interpreted as such. But I don't believe there is any school that requires 2 dental letters.

Submit three letters of recommendation. One must be from either a pre-dental advisory committee or a science professor. The others, preferentially, should be from either someone with a DO/MD, DDS/DMD degree and/or someone who can testify to the integrity and ethical standards of the applicant.

Three letters of recommendation
  • One must be from either a predental/premedical advisory committee or a science professor
  • The CDMI prefers other letters from either someone with a D.O./M.D. or D.D.S./D.M.D. degree and/or professionals who can testify to the integrity and ethical standards of the applicant

Interesting. Thanks. I guess the "and/or professionals who can testify to the integrity and standards of the applicant" part is pretty vague and can fit pretty much professors or dentists.

That's the only thing I could think of where they might be getting a 2 DMD thing from. I like that specifically MWU leaves it sort of open to fill the letters how you want. I know for me as an old-skool post-bacc, a professional LOR would be much more insightful about me as an individual than some of the science ones.
