So Cal
hey guys,

I'm still waiting on the Dental Schools Requirements book to get to me (it's been 2 weeks since I ordered it) and am anxious to see how many of each kind of letter (science, non-science) the california schools require. Can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me and post this information on UCLA, UCSF, UOP, Loma Linda, and USC? I'm in the process of requesting letters and I need to know how many I need. I have two science professors for sure, but do any require more?

Please help!!! I would be eternally grateful! Thanks 😕

Not too sure about Cali schools, but in general schools usually would like 2 strong letters from science professors along with 1 non-science (and make that non-science letter a letter from a practicing dentist). Fire up some more letters if you can. The more the better, but remember each year that you apply, you have to ask the same people for a letter again.

Dear God, I hate asking for letters. I think that is definitely THE WORST part of the application cycle.....that and telling my would-be-roomate that I was ditching him to go to another dental school. 🙄

Pi_Guy1, why do you have to ask the same people for a letter again? My original letters from professors are on file at my school, and I was going to ask them to forward copies to AADSAS.
I am not planning on asking any new professors for more letters, since I have letters from 2 science, 1 dentist, 4 scientists(ex-employers), all of which I used when I applied to dental schools for 2002. The only additional one I will now have is the committe letter from the prehealth folks. Maybe I am just misunderstanding you?

Some schools will let u get by with the third letter from a DDS, others won't. Your best bet is to have 2 science prof's, 1 DDS and one other (english, a social science or 1 from your major if not science). Plan on having 4 or 5, its your best bet. Especially since schools requirements differ. It takes a teacher just as much time (relatively speaking) to send out 1 letter as it does to send out 30. Also you will have 1 prof (and this is a guarantee) that will not have time to get to your letter until November. So plan on having more then u need.

One hint from the book "steiner19er's 101 ways to get into dental school"(available from me for $600) is to give your prof's a diskette with each school typed out. That way they can personalize each letter, and just cut and paste the dental school on the top of the letter with ease (and its correct). They can also print this out onto the envelope, or you can give them a sheet of address labels already typed out with each schools address.

Pi_Guy1,

What about ditching your would-be-classmate to go to another dental school??!! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Pebbs,

Sorry to break this to you, but unless ADEA have changed this, the Dental Schools Requirements Book does not include the letter of recommendation breakdown for each schools of which types you need!!! For some schools, they may have a " VERY BRIEF" description of letters of recommendation, but not the specific info that you're hoping to have. This is what I know from the 38th Edition!

Hope your new version book has what you wanted! 😎
