i havent heard from any of the schools i've applied to yet and am wondering if i should send them a letter of interest. however, nothing on my app has changed other than I've spent more time as an EMT. should i bother with the letter and if so, how effective are tehse letters?

thanks in advance.

I'd start by giving them a call?

You should probably start doing new stuff! So you can send a great letter of Update, i liked talking about my new activities during open interviews, to get away from just talking about my AMCAS and secondarys

so basically i should send a letter to the admissions committee about new things that i've done since i sent in the apps? do i address it to the adcom? thanks again.

also, what is the best way to get the letter into your file? by email or snail mail?

As someone who did that last year, I will say that this method works. I emailed all the schools that I was still interested in but had not heard back from (about 10 of them) with new updates over the Christmas break, and I got 3 interview offers (Iowa, Northwestern, WashU) the first week of Jan. It could work, and it doesn't hurt unless your letter is very poorly written. Even if you have nothing new to say, at least you're showing your continued interest in the school and all schools love to accept kids who want to go to their school. My advice is be sincere but don't sound too desperate.

Ya, address it to the adcom.

something has been kinda bothering me --

after my out-of-state interviews were done, i sent thank you letters / letters of interest to the various schools....

but i think for one of them, i mentioned to the schools where else i had interviewed and how i considered this school my top choice over all those others....

i really regret mentioning all the other schools, cuz no one seems to do this! (right?) sighhhhh, was it a bad idea for me to mention other schools with which i had interviewed? do schools generally not want to know this? will they reject me cuz they'll think "oh, someone else will take this person?"

I wish I hadnt done that..... 🙁

Same situation... I got this kind of questions from a couple schools I interviewed at. Same as you, I did tell them all the previous schools I had been to. Don't know either whether that's the right thing to do. But at least, we showed them sincerity?? Best of luck to you!!! =) And happy New Year!!!

I have one school in mind that I would LOVE to go to and havent heard from yet, so here's what im thinking of putting in the email:

1. I am out of school, but just finished up a graduate class and am signed up for another one (Medical Genetics I and II) through the NIH (where I work). Since the classes are CME accredited, most of the ppl in it are getting ready for the boards in Med Genetics so the exams were impossible for a lame post-bac like me. I audited the class (like all of the other post-bacs in my class) and will prob audit the second one as well. I guess I have to mention that? I'd imagine not mentioning that would be dishonest. I don't care that I'm not getting a grade. There is no way I could get an A in the class, but the lectures are REALLY interesting..

2. I ran a 5k in October. It was Race for the Cure, the breast cancer research fundraiser.

3. I am volunteering with a new organization (i work with dogs, not people) but its hella fun and I do it twice a month. We rescue labs and find them new homes.

I am thinking of including all of these things. I don't know if any of these things are worth writing an update email about, but I want them to know that I am really interested in their school. I was going to email the Adcomm tomorrow. Any feedback would be most appreciated. 😀

Seems like your letter is more like a letter of intent than a letter of interest (top choice = you will go there if accepted), so I doubt it will affect you negatively. Of course, you better keep your word if you're accepted.

But in general, you don't want to list other schools. You could have mentioned that the school is your top choice without listing out the schools you interviewed at, right?

I think these are all cool things to write about, especially because there is a nice variety and shows that you have an interest in new and different things. In reference to the class, I think saying that you audited it is important but I wouldn't mention the reasons why you audited it over taking it for a grade.

hey, thanks for the feedback! I am going to email them tomorrow. 🙂

Does anyone have any idea how to word these letters? A sample one would be so amazing...anyone care to post one?
