ok, so I have applied to both allopathic and osteopathic schools. I have had all my letters sent to my pre-professional advising office. I have five letters total: 1 from an M.D., 2 from D.Os, and 2 from science teachers. The pre-professional office puts these together along with a cover letter from their committee. When I applied to allopathic schools, most of them just accepted this entire packet, but osteopathic schools seem to be pretty strict in only wanting one letter from the committee and one letter from a D.O. Does this "cover letter" count as a committee letter? I believe it is pretty brief. Also, should I tell the advising office to only send that and one D.O letter instead of the packet? Or should I just forget about the committee letter and have them send the two science teacher letters instead? Thanks!

I would just send the committee packet that is already assembled... My school does a committee letter, so they write a composite cover letter, and attach my DO letter, 2 science letters, 1 non-science letter, and 1 from a community service org I worked with... I have not had a problem anywhere as this meets every school's letter standards.

Also, even if the cover letter doesn't count as a "committee letter" the 2 science letters are there which will fulfill the requirement.

Definitely agree. I haven't had any problems with this either.

ok thanks, that is what I will do then...what did you guys put in the spaces for Letters of Rec on the secondary applications tho?

Would a letter from a psychology professor count as a science letter?

no, psychology=social science (social science is economics, psych, anthropology, sociology, etc)... straight science is considered gen chem, orgo, physics, bio, etc
