so my stats aren't really good. ive talked to people who said that my letters of rec need to be really strong! so so far i have six letters, and i know that three of them are really strong.. im not sure about the other ones.

one of the letters is from my o-chem teacher in which I got a B. I don't know if he will " highly recommend" me. I had asked my Bio Lab teacher to write one as well and she's pretty nice and I got an A, so she'd prolly write a good one. But, if i include her's, that would be 7 letters of rec and I heard that too many l or r's puts my candidacy in question. My o-chem teacher is the only science prof from which I have taken a course, that is writing a letter for me.

Thus, should i include the bio lab teacher's rec since that would mean i have 7 letters of rec?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!

If you have a pre-med committee, have them write a letter for you. Seven letters is too much. One more than the school's requirement is OK, but more than that is overkill. You don't want to look desperate.

I agree--that is WAY too many letters. Pick the letters you think will be the best--but don't send them all.

Pick and choose my friend. You want to hear something very strange that happened to me. I had a prof. agree to write a letter of recommendation for me, and thinking all was good I sent him a list of addresses to send letters out to. Well, he only sent one letter of recommendation out (to my state allopathic school) and refused to send out any others. This was a little bit lame, but thankfully I had another prof. willing and waiting to write a letter of rec for me. So, if you run into the same problem (which I doubt you will) you have some good backups. I'm just hoping the one letter he did write was a good one.😀

regarding secondaries; a lot come with forms that they want DOs or MDs to fill out to evaluate you; is it a general rule that an official letter can be sent out instead of their evaluation forms?

Some schools such as VCOM want the evaluation filled out in order to send an official LOR. You should contact the school if the info is not clear on this matter.

Fowlersgap,

i applied to aacomas in feb, got my western secondary a few weeks later, interviewd in April, accepted about a week later...i used to think that time played a factor when you applied..but not anymore!

Good Luck!

COMP and NOVA want an LOR from a non-science prof. I don't think a non-science prof will remember who I am, let alone know me well enough to write me a letter. I talked to Ester in admission at COMP and she didn't seem too optimistic about me getting an LOR from my current supervisor. Any suggestions?

I have never heard of anyone getting penalized for having "too many" LORs. My counselor advised me that 5 LORs should be the norm. Not just 5 science LORs, but a well-rounded portfolio of LORs. Unless your school has a premed committee, it is not that bad to have more than 5 and less than 10 LORs. I write more but..... Feel free to PM me.
