hi everyone,
i have a doubt regarding letters of recommendation for BU.boston university has asked to submit letters in a sealed envelope.i did not know about this when i got leters of recommendation from my school in India.so i do not have the letters in a sealed and stamped envelope.i called BU and someone there told me it is OK if they are not in a sealed cover.but when my friend called again they told her that the letters should compulsarily be in a sealed cover.so i am confused.if i have to get the letters again from india it will be too late to apply.is there anyone here who has applied to BU ,who did not submit letters of recommendation in a sealed cover and got an interview or admission?please help me. what should i do now?hope i am not troubling you guys.

normally they think if in a sealed envelope with sign across it means that the recommendors have given their honest opinion without us knowing whats in it...i applied for a college which needed recommandation from their forms so i sent it and got it thro courier which came in 1 and half weeks...

hi shilpi,
u got the forms back in 1 and a half weeks?did u send the form directly to the school?i cannot do that with regards to my school.i have t ask my parents to go to the school which is about 12 hrs journey to get the letters.it might take atleast 2 to 3 weeks.anyway thank you for your suggestion.i will see what i can do.

i sent it to my parents only but my school is close by so they could do that

It is not only the envelop alone. The envelop shold have an official seal on it.

hi raj,
thanks a lot for your reply.i feel so relieved knowing that.
as you suggested i will put each letter in an envelope and send them.thank you.

As Sam said, it isn't just any sealed envelope. It should be a school envelope with its seal on the back.

ANYWAY, don't worry about that, I wrote to them asking them that question, and they said its ok. Because in my case I had to open the letter, so that I'll be able to get it translated. Translators don't have Xray vision!!!.

It's ok, don't worry and don't waste your time, money and energy!.
