Hey, how many letters of rec are most o f you getting? I've heard 4-7.. but does that mean you should probably just have 7? Also, thusfar, I've got one from being a camp counselor, one from doing research with someone, and the other 3 are from college science teachers. Do you think that's not enough in both number and variety?

Oy.

2 science, 1 non-science OR a pre-med committee letter (they have their own requirements).

Do not barrage them with letters unless schools ask for them because they don't want to read more than they have to.

7?, isnt that a little bit too much??......i think around 4 is good already........

Most schools prefer a pre-health committee letter. If your school has a committee then you should get one from them. If not, I think four letters should suffice. Two science, one non-science and then maybe a doctor or someone you've done research with.

This is true- try not to overwhelm them. But at the same time, don't hesitate to send those extra letters as long as they say something NEW and OUTSTANDING about you.

Eh, as long as you don't fall into the thinking that you can replace 3 great letters with 5 "ok" ones even if they still convey the same things.

When I applied, I only got three and used three. Two from science teachers, and one from a non-science teacher. You don't want to annoy the person reviewing your app, by making them read too much.

I have 4... 1 from a non-science professor, and three from science professors. I wasn't sure if one of my science professors was going to come through (he wanted a minimum score on the MCAT), so I asked another to write me a letter just in case. Now I have all of them. I was considering one from my volunteering supervisor, but she's usually busy, and has only met with me like 3 times in the entire time I've been volunteering, so I didn't think it would be that great of a letter.

wow, lol what is the reason for that? Some people are really up there aren't they.

He said that if I scored at least a 27, he thought that I was competent for medical school, and that he would be willing to write me a letter then. At the time I asked, I was only scoring 26-27 on my practice exams, so I was really worried I wasn't going to make his cutoff.

I suppose it makes some sense, since people with less than a 27 have a more difficult time getting into an allopathic school, but it threw me for a loop when I heard it.

Rather than make a new topic, I'll post in here. Does a bioengineering professor count as a science professor? It seems like it would, but I'm just checking.

Has anyone who applied to MCW had their letters posted as "received" by them on their status page?

Everything else of mine is complete at MCW but my letters so I was wondering if I need to email or if it is just that they haven't collected them from virtual evals?

I will answer my own question since my letters were just indicated as received...
Good Luck

My school has a premed letter sent out. Even then, you stil have to choose your letter recommenders and then it gets sent to the premed head advisor and then he takes that and compiles a letter. Anways, thanks! This made me feel less intimidated about what I gotta get done!

At my school my premed advisor makes a composite letter. They require:
3 science letters
1 non-science letters
2 outside letters

Outside of a premed committee, it depends on the school. Go to each school's website to see their requirements.
