Today I was in a radiation oncology office and had a patient inquire about lupron induced impotence. He had a radical prostatectomy 11 years ago but apparently things still work fine. He was receiving his first Lupron injection today.

The question was would Sildenafil or any of the PDE-5 inhibitors help here. I can't find a specific answer - my inclination is to say no, because the erection isn't inhibited by a vascular process, but by a hormonal process.

Any opinions/experience? He'll be back next week and I told him I'd research it and stick a note in his chart.

Looked at efacts briefly...it said initially he may experience increased testosterone levels, but long-term testosterone levels will drop. Impotence was 4/98 from a table I assume is in the product insert.

No personal experience with this drug, but if there is no stimulation, i.e. no nitric oxide, then PDE-5's are not going to help him.

so what if he's not interested in Caverject?

It's only 3 months but he kept emphasizing how active his life is and how he's taken all of these drastic measures to keep it that way etc.
