I don't believe they will open up schools THAT fast to exceed the rate of matching - becoming attending (observe my edited post). Besides, businessmen know that if they saturate residency positions, applications to medical school will decrease once applicants are aware that matching prospects will be reduced dramatically. So what kind of long-term big paychecks are they trying to get using this absurd method?
meh, who is to really know if medical school applications will decrease? chances of matching ortho and neurosurgery are pretty grim, but you still have hundreds of poor schmucks applying for those positions every year.
plus, what separates these medical school accreditation committees from the accreditation committees of dental, pharm, and law schools? i am sure they saw saturation happening before their eyes, but that did not stop them.
you have valid points. we are both just speculating. from my experience observing LCME/COCA, they have been accrediting like its hot--and i really do not see them pumping the breaks on it in the future.
