I do the EM Prep course. It comes on CDs with summaries of the articles. You can order the full text articles with the package but it's extra. You can do a ~60 question test and fax it in for 35 CMEs. The CDs are pretty cool. It's Bukata and Mallon and all the guys from EM Abstracts. A lot of the guys in my group have been doing it for about 4 years now and we all find it to be a pretty painless way to deal with the LLSA.

Thanks, that looks pretty good and I like EMRAP so I ought to like this. I gave up on doing EMRAP for CME though as I'm already on CME overkill. Between PALS, BLS, ACLS, ATLS, LLSA (35 per year), and an annual CME trip paid by my employer (20-30 more) I've got way more than the 50/year I need.
My question now is with the logistics of the process. I graduated in 2006, became board certified in 2007. Which year's articles should be my first? And if I sign up with EM Prep and get the "2008" articles, and take the 2008 CME quiz, I still have to take the 2008 LLSA test, which isn't available until what, April 2009? Is that right? Seems like it would be best to do the 2008 LLSA stuff in 2009 so there isn't much time between the two tests if that is the case.

No, the 2008 LLSA is up right now. I took it in July. I think you have 3 years to go back and take the tests if you get behind but they pop up early in their year. I boarded in 04 and I don't think I was eligible to take the 04. I'm pretty sure you can, and have to, take the 08.
Log into the ABEM site and they have a table that shows your testing history as well as what tests you are eligible to take.

Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment is the ongoing attempt by ABEM to try to make up for our deep seated feelings of inadequacy as a specialty. To that end we torture ourselves by requiring annual tests you have to take to be eligible to take the big every 10 year test to stay board certified. If you don't keep up you have to go through the whole cert process again, written and orals.
