Another question:
Do you guys know if you do get accepted how long you have or do they just fill the class if you don't accept right away. Also I am very concerned with all the negative feedback in one of the forums....The people who have interviewed..did you have any doubts about the school, or concerns? and then finally will the students have a chance to work with wildlife vets or another fields besides equine, food animal and sa? Is there opportunities to go abroad as well? Thanks

I was told i had until the April 15th deadline that all vet schools used. They also have a detailed list of classes on their website. I know i saw one for wildlife but i believe it was a 2 or 3 week course rotation so do not know how in depht it would go.

As Flutestar said, you will have until April 15th. I think they said they will send out notifications when the class is like 75% full, etc. so if you're making a decision you can kind of know how much time you have.

If you're referring to the negative feedback on the Midwestern page, I addressed all of those concerns in post #85. If you have any other questions, please let me know! I'm a current undergrad and I can answer most questions about student life and the CVM.

As far as working with other specialties, we will have a set number of "core rotations" and a number of "elective rotations". The elective rotations are a chance to pursue a specialty area, so if you want to work with wildlife vets, this would be your chance.

Great Thanks! No I am not making decisions...there is just a number of schools that aren't sending out notifications until march. I am going down on the 5th and am really nervous and excited!Any tips on the interview?

Woo! Accepted! I'm so excited! 🙂
So happy I have a for sure spot (in the country!!!), and not on an alternate list!
Plus I love the campus and am impressed with all the technology!

I solo hope I can say that after next week!!! A how long till they told you?

Admissions Council meets on Wednesdays, and it usually takes 2-3 weeks depending on how many people interviewed in a given week. They tell people up to 6 weeks just in case though, because we've had some weeks with A TON of people interviewing and they want to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to be discussed, so if it takes a couple of weeks they don't want people to freak out.

Oh ok that's makes sense..I wonder how many they are interviewing...I hope not a lot! I am hoping they weeded out a lot 🙂. My interviews on a mon. so I guess that's good!

I have my interview on Monday! Flying out from New Hampshire and in Charlotte, North Carolina now. Very excited to finally see the school!

What is everyones opinion on off campus housing single unit versus living with classmates.

I am getting incredibly excited… My interview is this week! I have an interview with Dr. Schadler. Can someone that has interviewed tell me what kind of format it is? Is it behavioral or just a casual Q&A? Thanks and congrats to everyone that was already accepted! :-D

It's pretty much Q&A, pretty conversational. Dr. Schadler is really easy to talk to and my interview time flew by. Don't feel pressured to respond immediately-take a few seconds, think your answer through, and take a deep breath before responding and you'll be fine.

I'm going to be rooming with one other person, but it's someone that I've known for 3 years already and we get along well. There are some great housing options, but some also are really expensive for what you get, so having a roommate can cut down costs. I would not look at housing in Tazewell because it will be too far away to daily commute (15+ minutes to LMU, 30+ minutes to LATRC).

AE373: I agree with DVMhopeful on how to handle the interview. I also interviewed with Dr. Schadler and the time flew by.

DVMhopeful: Thanks for the input on the commute. Do you know how far Middlesboro is from each?

I agree. My interview with Dr. Schadler was quite pleasant. Just pay close attention, and answer his questions. During my interview, he did most of the talking which was not what I expected.

Middlesboro is about 7-8 minutes from the university, but it's where the Wal-Mart and other groceries stores/shopping etc are so it's really convenient. It's probably about 2-3 minutes longer to get to the LATRC than from the university, but the turn-off to Hwy 58 to get to the LATRC is right on the Harrogate side of the tunnel. (I actually just Google mapped it and there's 1 minute difference). Personally, I'm going to be looking for housing in Middlesboro and Harrogate instead if the towns south of Harrogate for convenience.

Cool. Do you happen to know if we'll have our money from financial aid by summer so we could use it for housing deposit?

HAHA! I have no idea about LMU CVM, but NO school that I have ever attended has had the finaid ready in summer… In most cases I was lucky to have it by the time classes started! FinAid has been a persistent pain in the butt in my life… haha But if LMU has their stuff organized that well, it may be extra incentive to attend

I have no idea lol. I'm not sure how the financial situation with loans etc. will work. I've accepted the fact that I'm going to be using my own money for deposits.

Thanks guy. I was assuming the same thing but if anyone knew anything otherwise i could stop managing my money as tight as i am.

I can't believe it! I was accepted! I cried a lil in Dr. Schadler's office! Haha... He is a really great man. He def got me excited about the school... I have some tough decisions to make... Good luck to everyone else interviewing! Maybe we'll be classmates! :-D

Congrats!! You heard already!? That's amazing! Did he tell you at the end of your interview or something?!

Yea! Haha... I was all "normal composed" for the whole interview, then he told me and I turned into a spazz... That was absolutely the LAST thing I was expecting... I def cried a little haha...

Today I learned that the class is over 50% full already (meaning people have been admitted and accepted their seat). Congratulations to all those who have been accepted and good luck to all those interviewing!

Dr. Schadler is so awesome. He is always so helpful and wants to make sure everyone has a good interview experience.

Is anyone who was accepted willing to share their stats? I interviewed and should be hearing back soon so I'm pretty nervous after hearing the class is already over half full and they've offered so many interviews!!

Honestly, don't stress about your stats. I loved the school because they look at you as a whole person. The students are more than just numbers to them. It's pretty routine to offer more interview invites and more acceptances than there are seats. There are people who get accepted/interview at more than one place so spots can open up pretty quickly.
The hard part is over! You have done everything you could and put your best out there!
Lol. Buuuuut... If that's not convincing enough, shoot me a PM... I don't mind sharing but I'm waiting to publicly post my info until I make a decision... 🙂

So I was a distracted mess during the tours (downside to having an interview afterwards)… What is the personal laptop charge?

I think if you don't have a laptop, you can get one from them, and the charge goes into your tuition bill... I would assume at least. The person who took me on my tour didn't say anything about prices or explain bills or anything. But that's the only thing that really makes sense. 🙂

I just sent them my fall transcripts and they said they are not reviewing "pending " applications for a few weeks. This is so frustrating. By that time I will lose all my money on spring classes cause I can't drop them in time if I get in. Feeling Disappointed...If it is already 50% full I don't think I have a chance. Any Input?

I thought that the admissions committee met every wednesday? what does "pending" even mean?

My interview is tomorrow and I'm so nervous! I've been a mess! Then again it's my first interview. Any advice would be great 🙂

They do but They said they wanted to see my fall grades which I sent and I just got an e-mail from Genell saying they will not be reviewing pending apps for another few weeks. My guess is they want to see if the class fills up. I am wondering if many of the accepted people are trying to decide on schools or if many are dead set on LMU. I sent a nice thank-you note to Dr. Burns so maybe that will keep it fresh in his mind. It sounds like a wait list situation to me.

This link from the LMU-CVM Website (under "Financial Aid--Cost of Attendance Budget") takes you to a complete breakdown of the projected costs. The laptop fee is on the top of the page.

Yea… That's where I saw the charge… I was just confused as to what it's for. I mean, I already have a laptop… Are we provided with another one? And do we HAVE to pay for it if we do already have one?
