Anybody have any information on this new DO school in TN. Its pretty close to my town. I checked their website, but there are no stats up about the type of numbers they have accepted and such. Anyone know about avg. GPA and MCAT scores for this new school? Any info appreciated

I actually interviewed at PCOM-GA last weekend and talked to one of their faculty about it. When he asked me where I was applying he highly recommended I apply to the TN school (not b/c of me, b/c of the school). He said he personally knows that people that started it and have every bit of faith that they are doing it well. He doesn't seem to think that its being "new" will be problem. Of course this is only one man's opinion, but take it as you will. If I didn't already have an acceptance, I'd probably apply there; I LOVE TN.

I have heard that they recruited staff from a few other med schools to help jumpstart the curriculum. I have received information from them. It is certainly interesting.

I interviewed with them last week. They definately have all their ducks in a row, if you know what I mean. They recruited administration from Western University and also faculty out of UNECOM, so the people they have are all experienced. They are spending $25 million on a new building to house the med school that has all the top notch technology you can imagine and will be finished before school starts next year.

They said they are looking for people from around the area who have a real desire to live there. This place is SERIOUSLY rural, if you're from a big city and apply here be prepared to explain why!

As far as stats, they said they have gotten calls from people with low MCAT or GPA's asking if they should apply. They are telling them to go ahead, but not promising anything because they have received over 950 application since they opened a month ago. They also are being conservative with the number of acceptances they are giving out at this point.

Hi,

Did you have to rent a car to drive there from the airport? Transportation is really frustrating...

Yeah, you will need a car from an airport. Its little bit over an hour to drive from Knoxville's airport to Harrogate. I am interviewing there on Dec 8th, and I am very excited about it.

Take my word for it..this school will be one of the best in a few years! It's absolutely competitive with it's faculty and facilities. With a 150 class size..you can bet your education will be superior in comparison to a lot other overly stuffed medical schools out there!!

I interviewed then too, I was the only girl out of 12 people haha...It sounds like it is your top choice?

if a school is well-equipped for a large class size then there is no problem....

Well it was the first school I interviewed at, but it impressed me a lot with the technology, excited and establish faculty, the low cost of living, etc...but overall I don't have a preference yet of where I want to go, but if I went there I would not be sad about it! The interview was pretty conversational, but I don't know how I did since I don't have any others to compare it to, and I was kind of nervous! 😕 Guess we'll see within a few weeks, right?

Lisa,

When did you interview? If it was before Friday...then technically you could call and find out now...well tomorrow.

Marcia

Was it an easy drive from the airport to the school? I'm traveling alone, so I'm a little scared of getting lost...

I drove from Chicago, so I am not sure about the drive from the airport, but from everyone has said, it seems pretty straight forward. Good Luck!!!
