Hi everyone! I was planning on attending LMU but was just pulled off the waitlist for LIU and trying to decide where to go. I know they are both distributive based models/no teaching hospital but was wondering if anyone had opinions on where might be best to go or pros/cons of each? I have family on Long Island and grew up in NY so I’m worried I won’t adjust to the rural area of LMU well. However I know they’re a little more established than LIU and it sounds like they have a lot of clinical opportunities spread throughout the curriculum. Right now I’m interested in small animal shelter med/TNR or possibly small animal ER so if one is better than the other for that please let me know. Thanks!

I know people don’t love when we say this, but I’d just prioritize cost and to go wherever is cheaper. I don’t think there’s much of a difference between other features to really matter since they’re both distributive and have pretty similar NAVLE pass rates and stuff. Being close to family is a consideration and I do understand LMU and LIU are in very different geographic environments, but four years passes quickly and you’re there for school primarily not socializing outside of school. That’s not to say that relaxation and mental health and having fun isn’t important, but I think almost anyone can tolerate living somewhere for four short years when it’s for a purpose and has a dedicated end date. In the current political environment with all the unknown about student loans and availability of gradplus loans in the future, I’d do everything I could to reduce your costs if you’re needing loans and not paying out of pocket for school.
