What are some of the good agencies to sign up with for LT? How many should I go with? How many licenses should I get to start with? I have three now: CO/CA/AZ. Is this enough to start with? What are the best agencies for this part of the country?

Hey Jimmy,

Did you find an answer for your questions? I'm looking for a locum tenens agency as well, particularly in California. Come across anything yet?

I'm curious to hear from the attendings: How does locum tenens for, say, one year after residency, effect ones ability to get a top PP job? Does the situation change if it's international locum tenens? There are some sweet international gigs for US trained anesthesiologists out there..

Doing locums has NO bearing on whether or not you can get a private practice job..

Thanks Johan. I wasn't sure, as it seems that doing locums across the US, or doing it overseas, first year out of residency, may lead to a perceived "loss of skill" to some pp groups..Then again, I'm an intern, so my perspective on this is very limited..

Ok, so I have little or no footing in this conversation, but recently two locum guys (one in anes. and one in rads) both got permanent positions at the hospital near me. They came there to do a little stent, liked it, and wound up signing on. So, extrapolating from that very limited amount of data it seems that it has no bearing to a very slight advantage depending on your career goals. Of course, this is a small midwest town, so it isn't exactly a "competitive" position....but it pays well.

they are solid, but very picky on who they work with. worth a shot though.
