Logging shadowing hours?

When we put shadowing on our applications to medical schools and we say we shadowed for "X" amount of hours, are we supposed to have any sort of proof for the amount of hours we logged? Are we supposed to have documentation from the physicians we shadowed stating we did in fact shadow the indicated number of hours?

No, it's on the honor system. The interviewer may ask questions about it, and they could probably tell if you blatently lie about the experience
 
I'd recommend just checking with your physician about how many hours he thinks you've shadowed him for. Agree to a reasonable estimate every now and then, so that when it comes up (in an interview or whenever) you and your doc are on the same page.
