Loma Linda Status???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just heard that a recent LLU graduate screw up extracting a tooth from his own mother. She developed acute infection. She kept it to her self since her BOY from LLU worked on her.

She is dying.... on life support. Are you still think that LLU grad is as competent as others... I know at least three LLU graduates who got in with 13 or 14 PAT. Numbers don't lie@@

Sorry about the double post, but a couple things here made me laugh. Namely "she kept it to herself" but somehow you know about it. That's like in Pirates of the Caribbean when Jack Sparrow's asks the guy "if there were no survivors, how do you know about it?" or something like that. How could she have kept it to herself and ended up on life support?

Dr: So what did you say happened to your mouth?
Patient: I'll never tell you! It's none of your business, but I might tell my buddy Orgo because he's a good guy to tell things to.

Also, you said you know "at least" three people with low scores. I think if they were real people you knew, you would either know three or you would know more than three and tell us the number of people you do know who got those low scores. Unless that's too high for you to count, people don't usually say "at least three".

I guess what I'm saying here, Orgo, is that you don't sound like you're telling the truth. You might be telling the truth, you just don't sound like it.

tooth decay, regardless of whether schools read what is posted here or not, there are plenty of people here who could end up being future classmates or colleagues. If someone acts like a jerk here, and you're able to put a face to the name, would you want to associate with them? would you feel like this is a valued member of the field of dentistry? would this be someone you would feel comfortable referring patients to?

I'm not saying i'm going into school with a list of names of people on SDN who are jerks in an effort to match faces with names, but if i were to find out that one of my classmates was this notorious SDN jerk, I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't affect how I acted toward this person.

And you can go on and on about how criticisms against LLU are not pot shots against the fact that it is Christian, but I've read plenty of the comments about it and about other non-religious schools. The non-religious schools get plenty of bad comments, but the second anyone is dissatisfied with LLU, they are immediately dismissed as a cult, or some other anti-religious comment. I cannot recall reading similar comments about Creighton and Marquette which are Catholic (well, Jesuit) institutions, and I'm particularly sensitive to that because I am Catholic. But because LLU actively incorporates religion into their curriculum, they are east targets.

Orgo, your post is the definition of trolling.

Intolerant like state schools are? Sure, if you want to call that intolerant that's fine, but it makes you sound like a whiner. As was mentioned earlier, SDA's are the ones funding this school so they should be the ones benefiting from it.

My bad for bringing this all up again, I don't frequent the pre-dent forums very much anymore but felt like I should say a thing or two regarding this topic.

I am not sure what you mean when you say "intolerant like state schools". Most of them do not use a religious yardstick. My point in earlier threads was not questioning LLUSD's right to do what they wish, but more so warning those applicants who are not SDAs that their chances of getting admitted are probably a lot smaller than they think based upon the type of student LLUSD is taking. If the earlier cited statistics are accurate, that makes you one of the minority non SDA students who did get in. Congratulations to you, I think.

Wow. Maybe my reading comprehension is not up to par, but are you calling people (including myself) who are critical of LLUSD, jerks or someone who is not deserving to become a dentist? Who is the intolerant one? I thought SDN was a forum for discussion. You may not always agree to what is being said, but remember, it is a discussion area. I was hoping we could leave personalities out of this forum.

As a Christian,I will be the first one to defend the right of a Christian organization to follow their vision and mission. All I am saying is that LLUSD has a facade of appearing like they are really open to a varied applicant pool. In reality, they are really appealing to mostly SDAs. And that is their right. Just be up front and tell the applicants that.

Thank you. And I guess I could have been more clear. I was simply saying that LLU is no more intolerant by accepting mostly SDA's than a state school is "intolerant" for accepting mostly residents.

I guess you have a point because state schools do release their stats to the ADA or ASDA or whoever publishes that stats book all the applicants look at, but, the information you're talking about (SDA/non-SDA) is made available to the public on their website. They even go one step further and release the "alumni connections" information.

Also, discouraging applicants from applying isn't in the best interest of any school. If I personally had seen a disclaimer for potential applicants which explains that my chances of getting in are really really slim, I probably wouldn't have applied because I would get the impression I was throwing my money away. Probably many of my non-SDA classmates would have done the same. The larger the applicant pool the more likely they are to get the students they want.

I really don't think they are trying to deceive people to cash in on all the application fees. If you compare it to the total tuition + the annual clinic production, the money they make from application fees is practically nothing.

Peace out man.

I got in! Just got the letter... Am super excited and grateful... Interviewed in March. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting!

God bless!!

😀

Congrats man! Did you get in off the waitlist?

😱 Hi guys, does anyone know anything about this "5-year rule" that LLU SD has in regards to having to take all of your pre-requisite courses within 5 years before you matriculate? or something like that. I really, really hope that this is not true. I have been accepted to many schools and have declined them for LLU, but I recently heard of this ridiculous rule and it is really stressing me out. Can any one help? Why would LLU accept students, and then say, ohh wait a minute, actually you took some of your pre-req's SIX years ago, sorry, we change our minds. ?????? :scared:

you need to contact the admission office and ask for advice. you still have a chance to make it up in summer session. since you are accepted, all you need is to get C to pass. or if you did well on the DAT, you may talk your way out of it

this is my #1 school of choice for '08 cycle....so good luck everyone

Just got my secondary in the mail today. I called up the office with a few questions and I asked about the alternate list. The lady I spoke to said she hadn't heard anything about any movement on the list, implying no one has been called up off the list :/

I also asked whether any of my info in my file for 2007 would carry over to this cycle, and basically she said that as long as I have a *new* LOR from AADSAS (i.e. not the same stuff as last year), and my file from last year had the required three LORs (priest, coworker, professor), I wouldn't have to get any more for this cycle but I still have to send in the supp app and fee.

This saves me a lot of legwork and time.

I went to LLU for certificate program and only about 20% were SDA's. The program director wasn't even one...sure you will have more advantage if you are SDA but not much...you still need the grades!
