its like theyre actually syaing 'yea our school currently sucks, but with some drastic changes, it will become the greatest thing ever'

way to sell your school!!! 👍 👍

it's a really good school so nobody knows what you're talking about...

yeah, it IS a great school already. the dean though is relatively new and has previously announced lots of goals he's set in an effort to really make osu move up in the rankings. awesome school though, avg 31 mcat and 3.6 gpa...good program...would love to go there 😀

I know a lot about OSU(roomate/friends all med students there, worked at their med center, and currently at their Public Health school)...and I have to say the school is good on paper, but in reality the program/curriculum is kind of shaky....This last year ~60 students in the MS1 class went the Independent Study route b.c the curriculum sucked....If I by some stroke of luck got in to OSU,Case, and UC...it would be Case all the way....just my opinion! 😀

🙁 that doesnt sound too good......

just wait till sept. 3rd, and then take a look at our campus...dust is everywere these days, and the roads are really ****ty because of all the construction going on, but thats been going on all summer, its almost done now. its unbelievably beautiful....not so sure about the curriculum, but OSU rocks...

Well, the new curriculum, called the Integrated Pathway was just re-structured 2 years ago when the new dean came in...so they have been trying to work out the kinks.I do have to say that the school's reputation is really good, the students in the school are really helpful with eachother, and that the opportunity for research is amazing...So, I guess it is all depends on what you are looking for...hope this helps!

thanks, it looked pretty good when i read through everything and it seemed really enthusiastic about the program.....i guess i'll see for myself at the interview

I just can't go there for the life of me because I'm a U of M grad. So when I go to the annual UM OSU football game in 'kin Columbus and I start rooting for the Wolverines I'll get my 'kin ass kicked.

Unless you have personally talked to all 60 Ind Study students, I don't know that you can say they all went that route just bc the integrated path curriculum "sucked". I have heard only good things about OSU. Plus, I don't know if I'll be able to justify spending an extra $15,000 a year to attend Case over UC or OSU. The Match stats for Case aren't that much better...

The original poster is a ***** if that's the impression he got from reading the Dean's introduction.

OSU is already an excellent institution. And unlike many other already excellent institutions, OSU is very aggressively improving itself. Average GPA and MCAT score have climbed to 3.7 and 32 this year (a very rapid improvement over the past 2 years). A new hospital dedicated to cardiac care is about to open, as will a biomedical research tower in 2 years.

The ISP program (auto-tutorial) is an innovation in medical teaching that came about at OSU about 25 years ago. It's always attracted about 1/4-1/3 of the class, or about 50-65 people each year. One thing that may potentially have made the lecture program somewhat unnatractive last year is that classes started at 7:30. This year they start at a more reasonable 8:30.

CWRU is not a bad school, but I don't think it's facilities are as good as OSU. Also, Cleveland is a ****hole. It's not worth paying $55,000 a year to go to CWRU if you're an Ohio resident.

My opinion of OSU is that they have been trying in recent years to become more like Cali schools, meaning they want to drastically raise their credentials and become a powerhouse in education. That is all well and good but in the meantime they have dropped Ohio resident standards and have taken alot more out of state people (Case has done the same). They have started taking alot of high MCAT and high GPA people, not that this is bad but this can bite you in the !ss BUT in the meantime they have screwed Ohio applicants. Those high numbers people may end up flunking out and then you are left with some explaining to do. Med schools rarely let this happen though and usually change policy to save face. my 2 cents.

Uhhh... How about, no. You're WRONG.

The entering class this year at OSU is 69% in-state. That's actually more in state people than the previous few years.

No one in Ohio is getting screwed. This state has a disproportionatly large number of publically funded med school seats.

And where the hell did you get the idea that "high numbers" people are more likely to flunk out? 😕 Put down that crack pipe.

Seriously people, don't post unless you actually know what you're talking about.

garuda, chill... he's got a point... 69% in-state is still much lower than the cali schools, although i don't know if that screws ohio residents over because there are much fewer people applying to med schools in ohio than in california... it is a fact that schools in california are much more difficult to get into for in-staters, although ohio state is becoming this way because they're starting to push for out-of-staters with just numbers. bottom line, all the UC's are better than ohio state and harder to get into as both in-stater and out-of-stater. but ohio state is trying to become like the UC's and michigan and the changes they've been making in the last several years clearly attest to that.
