I’m looking for advice on things I should be doing or maybe steps to take. I began college playing football so my first two years as a science major I only managed to obtain a 3.0 average. I ended up getting hurt and had to transfer where I changed my major completely and after 4 years I graduated in general studies with a 2.3 gpa. At that time I hadn’t taken any of the organics, physics, calculus, or biochemistry. I became an EMT and realized that I wanted to become a Doctor and I really loved Emergency medicine so I went back to take the prerequisites
for medical school. My last 50 hours my gpa has been a 3.8 and I’ve managed to only get a couple of B’s. My cumulative now is around 2.7 however my science gpa is around 3.2-3.3. I haven’t taken the mcat yet due to just finishing biochemistry and I wanted to take all of the prerequisites before I took the mcat. So besides blowing the mcat away what else should I be looking to do? With a good mcat do I have a chance of applying directly to schools or should I look for an SMP? Thank you in advance for taking the time to reply.

My state of residence is Louisiana and we don’t have many so I’d be willing to go anywhere.

You could receive interviews at some DO schools if your MCAT is at least 500. Continue taking more undergraduate level science courses at a local college in order to increase your cGPA and sGPA. Post your MCAT score here in the future and we can suggest schools.

Have you graduated yet?? LSU New Orleans med school has a 32 hr rule that you can look into! Tulane also likes reinvention. If looking for something to prepare you for med school and help with GPA, you can look into getting a Masters in medical sciences at Mississippi College.
