I'm very interested in a DMO tour out of internship. I have a few years before I'm done with school but am trying to get the 'down low' on DMO's.
Specifically, 1)what work-out routine might I get into to prep for dive school and 2) where are the duty stations a DMO might serve?

First off welcom to SDN and the Military Medicine forum! I think you will find this an invaluable tool for getting the straight gouge on many aspects of the military and military medicine. Like any public forum there is a wide spectrum of opinions and most people here aren't afraid to share them!

There is at least one active duty DMO who frequents this board so if he sees your message he's likely to respond. We also have a flight surgeon or two and some very experienced GMO and non-GMO active duty-types. In the mean time check out this Navy site: http://wwwnt.cnet.navy.mil/ndstc/

If you search around that site a little you can find the details of the test used to screen for dive school, what the curriculum is like, physical standards, etc.

Again, welcome to Military Medicine!

HeavyD,
Take a look at my prior posts, I've covered a huge amount of DMO material and don't really want to reivent the wheel here. As far as PT goes, pull-ups tend to be people's weakest point. Start early and do them often, the rest won't be a problem. They'll whip you into shape at NUMI prior to Dive School, but the pull-ups come slowly. Remember, the pull-ups come after the swim,push-ups, etc. and they won't allow any leg kicking or swinging to help you out. 6 dead hang pull-ups after the swim and push-ups is harder than it sounds.
Duty stations are all over the world.
DMO is the best way to go, HOOYAH Deep Sea!

Your previous threads have addressed a bunch of my questions. Thanks for putting all that info out there.
Cheers!

When are you heading for Portsmouth?

Headed for NMCP in July. A little sad to leave EOD, but I need to get back to the real world sometime.
