Hello,

To start with, here are my basics:
  • Year in school: graduated 2018 - working at a pharma company now full-time
  • Country/state of residence: NY
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.46

  • AO GPA: 3.61
  • MCAT Scores: 506(126,129,125,126)
  • Research – include any abstracts/posters/publications and how you were credited (eg. First author, senior author, etc): Started research freshman summer. Have continually researched until the end of college. Probably around 1000 hours.
  • Volunteering (clinical) – include hours/sites: 280 hours at hospital, currently volunteering as EMT on the side every week - about 50 hours so far
  • Physician shadowing – include hours/specialties: 100 hours total, 24 hours pediatric infectious diseases, 32 hours EM, 24 hours neurosurgeon, letter of rec from pediatric physician who is also a DO.

  • Specialty of interest: Interested in pediatric immunology/infectious diseases
  • Interest in rural health (y/n): yep
GPA took a big dip(~2.6) during late sophomore year because I didn't know what I wanted and was late in entering classes, but otherwise has been stable. Since graduating, I have been working full-time, and volunteering for an EMS agency on my days off every week. I find the patient contact and aspect of being a healthcare provider(even as an EMT) to be much more rewarding and fulfilling than dealing with bioreactors and reagents all day long. I know medicine is what I want.

I actually applied last year, and sent in primaries to about 10 schools, but only completed secondaries for 4 schools, of which I got interviews at 2. Currently still on the wait-list for 1. Gearing up for reapplying since I cannot bank on that wait-list acceptance. In all honesty, between time and money, I was simply not ready to apply and forced it through, which I shouldn't have.(Also didn't realize applying to med school was so expensive!). So I am re-applying this cycle, but the difference is that I have both time and money this summer to devote 100% of my attention to this. In terms of continuing efforts, I have not had much time to do other volunteering other than the EMT every week due to job obligations. Also, will it be held against me if I do not obtain a letter from my supervisor?(I don't know if I want the company to know that I plan on applying to med school). Most of my supplemental information is complete since it carried over from last year(on both application services) and my personal statement is near complete, just need to have some people look over it. The only thing left is the school selection. I have a list of DO and MD schools, with a heavy emphasis on DO due to GPA/MCAT. I was wondering if I could have some people look over it, and see if there are any schools that I should eliminate or add. Thank you very much for your time!
@Goro Would you maybe be able to chime in here? Thanks so much!
