Has anyone used letters of recommendation from a foreign dentist for pre health committee evaluation??? I am a foreign national and came as an international student and now have my permanent residency. If I use a letter of recommendation from a foreign dentist (my country), will that help? What if it is the only letter from a dentist on my file?? How does that make my application look?😕

I do not have a letter from a foreign dentist, however a few questions come to mind...

Is your home country an English speaking country? If so, how good is dentist's English? Does he/she have a website or some other form of verification that they are a practicing dentist? Finally, are the dental standards in that country similar to those in Canada and the US?

These are simply the first questions that come to mind, and are not aimed at discrediting your letter. I hope this helps! 🙂

If you are interested in practicing dentistry in your old neighborhood it may make sense; if, however, you intend to stay in this country, getting acquainted with a local dentist might may you look like you have made the transition to a new culture and that you understand how dentistry is practiced here.

English is spoken in my country but is not the main language. I don't think they have a website for their practice and the dentist who I shadowed knows English fluently since that was her medium through which she did her dental course. The standards of practicing dentistry is quite different than what it is here in US or Canada.
But it won't hurt to keep that on file for my Pre Health Committee evaluation right??

Thanks for the info!
