The closest thing I have to a science LOR is one from a Cognitive Science psych professor and another from an orgo professor (whose class I got an A-/B+ in 🙁
I really wanted one from my bio class (class of 500+ and I was one of a handful to actually get an A both semesters)... but both my lab instructor and the professor retired. Lucky me!
I contacted the lab instructor (no reply, out of reach), and the instructor said he would be willing to write one but when I replied back, no response (twice!)
Since I know the two were friends, should I ask the instructor if he has the lab guy's contact info (since the prof I guess is no longer willing to write one-I dont blame him, he is probably enjoying his retirement now...)?

What should I do..... :'(
Please advice. Thanks!

Getting a A out of 500 students doesn't mean he should be a letter writer.. And if that individual is hard to get a hold of its normally for a reason . I would look elsewhere for letters.

Okay, to clarify, he knew me pretty well and emailed back saying I would make a great MD candidate etc etc... I also took two other classes with him (for a total of four semesters). Would have been great to get an LOR from him but oh well! Now I think I'm going to email him asking if he knows of the lab instructor's email address (assuming that prof no longer has the time to write it or whatever)...
Hoping neither of them are bothered by this...but also, at this point...what have I to lose, right?

Wait are you going to ask the person who you initially wanted a LOR from but didnt respond to your emails for the contact info for another professor so you can get LOR as well ??? I wouldnt do that personally. The person didnt respond 2 times so either they are incredibly busy or they dont want to deal with you. Either way you take it they would only be annoyed by a 3rd email asking for someone else contact number . What I would do is start looking for other LOR and if that instructor does email you back and gives you a good vibe then you can ask for the lab instructor contact info...... And also I know its hard to make a mark with classes that have 500 students but after a couple of years at a institution you should have a good pool of people to ask for LOR so you dont pigeonhole yourself into a few viable writers

Organic chemistry is science, and that letter should absolutely suffice.
