I want to get my application for my top school by the early admission deadline so naturally I want to give my references enough time to write a LOR. My A&P professor, whom I have asked to write a LOR, is leaving to Brazil in mid July for a month. She will not have access to the internet. I am wondering if there are specific questions each program will ask of the reference or if the LOR is open ended? Also, if it is the case that there are specific questions, would it be proper to ask the program for those questions prior to the opening of the application cycle in July?

I was in a similar situation, my professor wrote me an LOR, sealed it in an envelope, signed the back and placed a piece of tape over his signature to show that I hadn't tampered with it. Then I sent it to the PT school. Call the admissions dept. ahead of time to see if they will accept it and maybe this method will work for you.

There are details in the PTCAS application instructionsn pdf (bottom of the page): http://www.ptcas.org/references/

References are on page 33 of the pdf. Your professor will evaluate you on characteristics like problem solving, leadership, stress management, and then there is a comments section for them to write a letter. Have your professor write a letter of rec before the application opens, so that way she can just copy/paste that into the application in the beginning of July.

I had 2 from physical therapists, 1 from a statistics professor, and 1 from a Harvard medical school professor. I think these are good LORS as they can see your strengths and weaknesses from a professional and academic perspective. Good luck to you!
