Hello,

I'm new to this forum and have never posted. I am an applicant from Canada who is applying this year to the US match. I have a question about LORs.

I have recently completed my personal statement and want to submit my application to different programs. However, I haven't gotten all of the letters of reference yet. Can I submit the application to different programs without designating any reference letters at this time? Can I add more letter of references at a later date (i.e. if I'm doing an elective right now, and next week, I want to ask the attending for a LOR, will I be able to add his name to the programs as a letter of reference and then designate his letter to be downloaded to a specific program?)

thanks in advance,
EJL

the answer to both of your questions is yes. you should apply as soon as possible, with whatever materials you have now. programs will begin downloading your application, regardless of whether or not it's complete. you can assign letters to specific programs at any time, and you don't need to assign them all at once (ie, you can add that letter from your elective once you've asked the attending).

So when is the absolute latest date for getting LORs in?
This would be helpful to know in planning 4th year schedules.
