LOR Question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How would I know if ECFMG scanned one of my LOR's in as a "copy"?

Also, how do you know if your LOR's have been uploaded to ERAS?

Go to ADTS after u login to ERAS.Then u will come across the
'My Documents' tab. This will show u the documents in the ERAS post office. Those documents r the one's which have been uploaded.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply! Any idea regarding my first question?

I think the ERAS usually marks such documents as a 'COPY' so that the programs know that these documents(LORs) have not been submitted as originals to ERAS by the residency applicants.
Good Luck.

It should NOT be signed in black ink! Your info in wrong.
MedRus is right. The LORs should be signed in an ink other than BLACK (e.g., Blue).
Good Luck!

So here's a hypothetical. Since I waived my right to view my LOR's, and if by accident a letter writer signed their name in BLACK ink, would there be a way for me to know that it was scanned/uploaded on ERAS as a copy? Just curious!

If you submit a photocopy or a letter signed in black ink it will be considered a Copy. This is just an ERAS policy.

Good Luck!

ECFMG is quite good in notifying the application if letters have a problem (i.e. signed in non-black ink and considered a copy).

Thank you very much medsRus 🙂

You are correct, I made a typo, it should say that every letter NOT signed in black ink is automatically marked as COPY in ERAS. It shouldn't be signed in black but sometimes that happens.

The other part of my info is correct though. Nobody really cares.
