Hi,

would getting in your specialty LOR by late october, like first week november be detrimental???

I know from previous posts there is no solid answer to this. But it seems like programs don't start looking at things till october 1, even thought you start submitting september 1. I would have other letter but not my specialty letter.

Can someone quantify how much of a risk that is (getting your letter in by oct/early novemeber) especially if you are applying to some competitive programs also

What field you're applying into probably would make a difference in the answer. My future specialty for example only wants letters from their own, so having only one LOR from "inside", regardless of when it comes, would be rather poor form.

Thanks. I hope to get 2 from "my own specialty" but they will be later since I haven't done those rotations yet. So is it better to turn in what I non-specialty ones I have and hope they wont reject me and actually wait till they get my specialty los, with step 2 score if its later, but better.
