Some questions about obtaining LORs for ERAS:
1) Can you get someone from undergrad to write your LOR if you worked substantially with that person? I worked 4 years in a lab and got multiple publications from it, but not sure if we are only supposed to ask people from medical school.
2) Is a Medicine LOR required/ recommended for Medicine prelim programs? I am applying in Adult Neurology and only have neurology and psychiatry LORs thus far.
3) Does a program director's LOR at home institution hurt if I plan to match at another institution?

1. They want someone who will comment on the type of physician you will be, not someone you worked with four plus years ago. We were discouraged even from getting LORs from people we worked with during basic science years.

2. I'm not sure.

3. No, generally a letter from a PD is good because they tend to be known in the community. A PD at one of the programs I interviewed at came up to me and remarked on how well respected the Pd at my home institution was.

Also, for Medicine prelim programs, do we need a Chairman's letter? I know most Medicine categorical programs require it.
