I am currently in the process of writing my resume to give to the few chosen individuals I would like to give me a LOR. 1. A&P Teacher. We are pretty close and she is simply amazing at what she does 2. My Boss (I'm a TA and have taught Biology 140 for 2 years now) 3. Optometrist I am currently volunteering and getting some patient care with.

ANywho, I need some insight on what to do about some past volunteer hours i have accumulated and whether or not i should mention them or not. I have around 300 hours spent in the local ER. I volunteer up there over an entire summer 2 years ago, the experience was pretty awesome, and i did get a lot of patient care involvement. However, since I am applying to Optometry school I am afraid this might reflect poorly on my application. Should i just claim less hours for the ER volunteer work or leave it off completely?

As far as my volunteer hours with optometry, they are somewhere around 100 total (half mostly just jobshadowing, the other half shadowing and patient care-ie visual accuities, refractometry, etc)

Thanks for the advice.

DEFINITELY put it on there. On your optomcas application, it'll give you an opportunity to write a paragraph about that experience. Just mention how valuable it was and what it taught you along with a line about how it has helped you realize that healthcare/etc is the field that you wanted to pursue. NEVER leave out ANY volunteering opportunities.
