there are many ways of doing the whole away rotation thing...however, when it comes to NYC rpograms they all compete against each other. It is purely a pride thing, so do a rotation at one place and then make sure you use the letter in your application to others...risk is that they will know you did an away rotation elsewhere and not w/ them. It doesn't matter which one of the big three you go to, but if you can go to more than one do it... we have people at Cornell who did 3rd year rotations at all 3 (cornell, Sinai, and Columbia) and it helped them make up their minds... in the end it doesn't matter..got to have the numbers, but that's a whole other post that's already been done.

heres my background: i will be an FMG, and I have mediocre grades and scores.

i like anesthesiology and i am willing to go to any program i can match into. i was hoping to get a stellar letter of recommendation from a top anesthesiology residency program in the attempts to get into some average to lower tier anesthesiology residency program elsewhere.

so im assuming it makes no difference which top NYC program i go to, if my goal is to get a good LOR. any additional comments?

This changes things. I don't know what to tell you, but you may be better off going to a place you can potentially get into and impressing them directly... as opposed to going elsewhere and getting a letter. A rotation at a place is more likely to get you in than a good letter from another place. At least that's what I think ???
