If you are applying to a program not in the match do you need to have LORs for that specialty? How did people who SOAP-ed into other specialties get in without LORs for that field. eg got into ortho when only had letters for derm?
In SOAP, everyone is flexible. Programs have the choice of picking people who have applications for their field but didn't match (hence, less competitive in some way), or stronger candidates who have applications directed towards another field. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if, once contacted by a program, they allow you to email them additional letters.
