A bill going to committee today to allow independent practice of nurses in undeserved areas. It appears the bill is limited to NPs, but sets up a slippery slope. The best part is the rep is a RN and JD.

Page 1, line 14:

"Advanced practice registered nursing" means nursing by a certified
15 registered nurse anesthetist, certified nurse midwife, clinical nurse specialist, or
16 nurse practitioner which is based on knowledge and skills acquired in a basic nursing
17 education program, licensure as a registered nurse, and a minimum of a master's
18 degree with a concentration in the respective advanced practice nursing specialty
19 which includes both didactic and clinical components, advanced knowledge in

1 nursing theory, physical and psychosocial assessment, nursing interventions, and
2 management of health care.
