My school does not make loupes mandatory. Is there anyway I can get reimbursed for them? I asked the admin at my school about signing off on the reimbursement and they said, "In any event, I can verify that loupes are ordinary and maybe necessary but I can't say they are mandatory even though all the students use them."

Any chance loupes will be reimbursed in this day and age where nearly every dentist/ dental student uses loupes?

If it's not mandatory or billed with tuition they won't pay for them, unless something has changed.

Still plenty of dentists around who don't use magnification or a headlight either.

I think the Navy pretty much assumes they are a necessary requirement. I never had to show proof that my school required it and got reimbursed no questions asked. I don't see how a school cannot make it mandatory to get them, how can anybody do any preps without them?

Wow, i feel like that would be a liability on the school's part once they got into clinic. To the OP make the investment and get a pair with a light. They should get reimbursed but if not then it's just something you need. It'll save your posture which is worth the price of them alone. I think my orascoptic loupes with light were $1100 with student discount and navy reimbursed $1000 (everything except taxes).

I don't recommend trying to slip it by if you know it's not authorized for reimbursement.

I do all of my dentistry without magnification now.

Thanks guys, I'll let you know what happens
