Low DO
Started by sosomali
LMU most likely has the lowest average. Not because it's not a good school, but because it's a new school. I expect that they will have higher standards as the years go by.
If the new school in Hattiesburg, MS (William Carey) gets there accredidation on time (should happen between aug and dec) then I assume that they will have the lowest standards for the incoming class of 2014.

RVU is probably going to have some low scores after whats been going on over there recently.

What's happening with RVU? Hurting in terms of funding?
i believe Pikeville has one of the lowest gpa listed
Putting the guessing behind about RVU; Pikeville has had the lowest published GPAs...they also HEAVILY favor the apalachin states so if you're not a resident, this stat doesn't mean as much as you'd think.

LMU-DCOM Class of 2012 stats are as follows (I was sent this before I interviewed there):
Mean Cum:3.38
Mean Sci:3.27
Mean Non-Sci:3.5
MCAT:24.4
I belive the MCAT is actually higher than some other schools, right? I'm not sure about the GPA's. Anyone else have stats for other schools?
That is on the low side for DO schools. I know for NYCOM the 2008 entering class had an average of 3.5 GPA (both science and non-science) and 27 MCAT (probably slightly higher for my entering class). I would think that TOURO-NY would also have low stats since it is very new.
I got accepted to LMU, Pikeville, and PCOM-GA (after being on hold because i was going to retake the MCAT but didn't). Those were the only schools I applied to. I had a 3.1 and a 23M. I think the LECOMS have a lower gpa/mcat than some of the other schools. Even with stats, you won't know until you apply. The interview is huge at most schools.
Some schools have geographic preferences that really piss me off. For example: UNM takes 95% of its students from NM, LECOM takes preference to students from Northern PA (obviously not all it has a lot of seats), Pikeville wants students for rural Appalachian states (I don't know how many students are not appalachian), ect
How does a lay student at a big state university with say a 3.3 and a 25 MCAT get in? Do we have to have outstanding super unique personal statements? How do we do super well on interviews? 😕 I'm confused.

Have good EC's, LOR's, show a dedication to osteopathic medicine, have a good interview and apply early and broadly. You will get in with what you have if you do these things too.
If its been talked about before, i apologize..
Which DO schools have lowest avg's in terms of GPA/MCAT?
are you kidding? don't look for the easist way in. u should find a school that matches your personality. you're just taking the lazy way in to med schools. aim high and get into a school that will benefit you, not one with low standards.
