  1. Pre-Podiatry
I have a 2.85 in accounting. I am going back to take pre-med/pre-pod classes.

It is probably a combination of lack of subject interest and undiagnosed ADD that caused my poor performance. However, I am on Adderall now and seems to help a lot.

How forgiving are Podiatry schools when it comes to explaining low GPA due to learning disabilities that wern't treated?

How long have you known that you had ADD? I can't imagine the schools would be very forgiving if you've known long enough to have taken action but were negligent.

Not too long...I didn't have a formal diagnosis and a referal to a psychiatrist until I actually graduated college.

I would think that some schools would give you some small amount of leniency with your ADD, but not with your lack of interest in what you were studying. The best thing for you to do would be to do great in your pre-med/pre-pod classes and show that your treatment worked and you have that taken care of. It should also pull your cumulative GPA up to around 3.0 hopefully. Good luck!

dont even talk about add and try and use it as a crutch. come back, take the classes, focus and live with the results. i was finance and marketing and had a 2.9 finance gpa. came back and did 3.5 in science. i was never really asked about my previous studies and never dwelled on them.

First, get signed up with disability services at your school. This enforces your rights under the ADA. Second, ADD is a serious medical condition that is "crutch" worthy. This kind of comment is like yelling at people that are in wheel chairs. (Just because one is paralyzed does not mean they have problems hearing)

You want to follow through with DS and maintain your status under the ADA, so you can keep it in Podiatry School.

If you were in a car wreck, with multiple leg fractures, and you were in the hospital for 2 weeks while in school, your grades would drop. You would try to explain the situation to the graduate schools you were applying for. Just because the "injury" we deal with is in our brain versus the two broken legs in the car accident does not mean we should feel shame or like we are "using it as an excuse."

Air bud went well and I agree with him and spooge both. Get your problem fixed (seems like you might have) and don't dwell on it. 100% true story: my roomate in my post bac had an awful gpa (2.7). His senior year he was diagnosed ADD and took a prescription stimulant and his life completely changed. From our post bac classes he raised his gpa up to a 3.2-3.3. He then studied his a*s for the MCAT and scored a 34 on it. His volunteer work is off the wall too. He has been accepted to several US allopathic medical schools as a result. I should also note that he was strongly motivated to do well and get into medical school because one of his close friends died of cancer that year.

If you can clearly prove yourself to schools that your performance in the past was not represenative of who you really are and instead you show a sharp upward trend in everything you do, I don't think any school would hold it against you but would probably respect you even more.

exactly...................just prove your self......ADD is not a great excuse..one of my friends has ADD or ADHD.....but he does just fine....he doesn't use it to boo hoo over grades...
If i was interviewing someone and they said "well it's b/c of my ADD" I would reject them instantly..... Be more concerned about not letting the condition run you.

I understand that...I personally am not trying to use ADD to explain why I can't make good grades. If someone cant be successful b/c they have ADD in the field, then it just can't be done.

All in all the advice was uplifting. I just started on Adderall and I feel like I can't get thing done in an hour that would normally take 5. wish me luck. I am glad that all hope is not lost.

"If i was interviewing someone and they said "well it's b/c of my ADD" I would reject them instantly"

Then you would be rejecting someone based on a documented disability covered under the Americans with Disabilities act of 2008. And you would be breaking the law...you would get sued...rightfully so...then you would be labled a bigot. You cannot reject someone from a job or admission to a professional school based on race, sex, age, creed, or disability. This is why I said to get registered at your school's disabilty office. Keep records and do not let anyone get away with discrimination.

"Be more concerned about not letting the condition run you."

Just like the person with broken legs should not let that "disability" keep them from walking.

Ok let me make this a bit more clear.....so you can understand!!!!!!
Not saying i would reject someone b/c of a disability.......b/c that is ******ed.......What i said is that "If you choose to use excuses to get over" than you would be rejected. Having a problem is not the PROBLEM! But making excuses is....obviously the OP understood just what i was saying.... I'm not the shallow person you think, b/c in some way we all have issues and problems....Lord knows i got mine🙄

I have ADHD and I wasn't offended by philly's comments. There's a difference between requesting reasonable accomodations and making excuses. He/she was referring to the latter.

LOL..............thanks Loser....although i don't like saying thanks and loser all in the same sentance........i feel like i'm being nice and mean all at the same time🙄............i need a drink
