Firstly, I apologize for starting up a commonly posted thread, but i just would like some insight.

About me: Im twenty (almost twenty one) and I'm a junior in college in texas. I started college at a community college in 2013 and didn't know what i wanted to do with my life. Over the two years at the CC, my grades were poor. I never was motivated, i was lazy, and didn't put forth any effort. I got out with around 2.4. Most of that was C's in my basics but I did however take gen chem one and make a D. So when i was getting ready to transfer to a university, I really had to figure out what i wanted to do. I had always been fascinated by the thought of dentistry as a career and wanted to pursue it. So i get my classes for the fall (2015) and i took cell and molecular bio and the a psych class and some electives. I ended up with a 2.14 gpa and a D in cell and molec bio. I have never felt so low and like i hit rock bottom before. This semester, Im in cell and molecular bio, and genchem 1 (both my D's) and the way its looking i should make a B in both, however chem could possibly fall to a C. What I'm getting at is that with my piss poor transcript over these two years full of a couple of A's and B's, C's, and two D's, am i kidding myself about turning the ship around, or is it possible to get it done and make this happen. I have about 61 hours i think, with a Gpa of about 2.3
My main problem is my motivation and laziness which i am still trying to diminish. One thing that gives me hope is the 2 years i have left are full of science courses that are required, so if i can start acing them, i feel like i could potentially be competitive. Additionally, i was wondering if i should retake some of the courses fro m the CC that were C's because of my laziness such as english, stats, history, etc..
Surrounding dental schools that id like to attend are the three in texas, OU, or LSU. so have to get my grades up to their standards.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, any feedback will be appreciated.

You need to change things fast. I don't know how else to say it. Seek motivation in anyway you can. You'll need to do a post bac or SMP most likely and retake any pre req classes with a grade lower than a C (which it seems like you're doing).

If working towards becoming a dentist isn't motivating enough, I don't know how you're going to overcome that habit of being unmotivated in school. Also, you struggled with your lower-level sciences, so don't walk into the upper-level sciences expecting you can breeze through them...especially if you don't change your study habits/motivation ASAP. Lucky for you, Texas must reserve 90%(?) of their seats for in-state residents, but that won't really matter until you start changing your ways. As JLT223 stated, a post-bac or SMP will be needed, as it will be extremely difficult to bump a 2.3 GPA up to a somewhat competitive ~3.4ish in the next 2 years.

When there is a lack of motivation, there's always something else you're distracted with.
Where have you been spending your free time? Is it really worth sacrificing a decent chance at your dream?

You have to come to terms with it ASAP!

Once you do, I would recommend being realistic about your chances. Calculate about how many hours of courses you can take before graduating and see how much that would change your GPA.
Is the end result good enough to apply to schools? or would you have to take more courses through post-bac/smp? When are you planning on taking the DAT?

These are just some of many questions you have to answer for yourself to get back on track. I hope you decide what is in your best interest. Good luck!

You need to change things ASAP. I would suggest seeing if your school has a study skill center or something similar to help you establish good habits.
