Am i alone?

hey guys, is it just me or is everyone acing their DAT's, or have sick gpa's 3.6+ and worried about getting in. I just thought all the low stat peeps can have a place to talk and share our experiences and how far along were getting this cycle.
To share: I'm one of those with low DAT
my stats are 3.5 cum gpa and 3.3 science and an awefull 17/20/17 (14 QR 🙁 , 15 RC 🙁 ). I've applied to basically 20+ schools. Schools just got everything including DAT's last week. Haven't heard a word regarding interviews other than hearing the schools saying my files complete via email and snail mail. At this point i'm feeling zero hope. I'm also not a minority so that doesn't help me either. So share your experiences.

Gluck guys hope to see those who can relate.
 
Your DAT scores may be on the low end but a 3.5 GPA would not put you on the overall low stats list. I believe u have a fair chance, so keep your hopes up. You could always retake your DATs. Goodluck!
 
Your GPA isn't bad at all. Sure, it's not a 4.0, but you would be surprised how many people get into dental school with GPAs around 3.3. Your DAT scores are average so you are not going to stand out, but they're not horrible either. What are your extra-currics like?
 
Hey teef.

You have to be crazy...I think you absolutely have a chance. And, your stats are not what I would consider low in any regard. In fact, according to the stats posted on www.predents.com, here are the averages for the 55 schools listed:

Average cum. GPA 3.5
Average sci. GPA 3.41
Average DAT 19.05
Average PAT 17.49

So, if you have decent extra curr., you are right there.

I do have tons of extra currics and awards and what not research for 2 years as an assistant I seriously think everyone has those these days which means that if you don't have it your below average. But MCG by looking at those stats i'm below slightly in all of the categories.

With the stats peeps throw up on this site it seems that 98.9 % of applicants would qualify for this club 😉 looks like you are doing fine. dont sweat it till you know fo sho.
 
I have a REALLY low manual dexterity mark on my DAT.... like <10. The only thing is, the Canadian DAT is always in the middle or beginning of midterm season so it's the choice between studying for your DAT grades or school grades.

I assume your soap probably broke into many pieces, a lot of schools don't even look at soap carving so I wouldn't worry too much about it!

wtf is soap carving, man apply to USA schools we dont have that crap on the DAT
 
For Canadians, its beneficial to write the Canadian DAT as both US and Canadian schools accept it. From an article that I looked up (if ppl want the link, I can try to find it), it stated that the PAT replaced soap carving on the ADA DAT, hence, why there isn't any of "that crap" on the ADA DAT. So I would consider the American test takers lucky (although they have an organic and QR component that the Canadian DAT lacks). How can you tell one can score better writing the American DAT since an AA of 21 is already pretty damn good and it will be hard to duplicate that feat.

Anyway, soap carving is a 30 minute test of one's manual dexterity as they are required to carve specific shapes with specified dimensions into a cylindrical piece of soap. This section usually makes or breaks one's DAT score as a low carving score can ruin otherwise high test scores as Canadian schools look into carving. IMO, this component is a pretty good indicator of one's manual dexterity and eliminates the need to BS on the manual dexterity component in the AADSAS application.

Surprised you got rejected by Case with those stats...they have sent interviews out to ppl with worse stats.

I guess i'll join you guys too... i gots very very little shadowing hours/dental experience. Also, my DAT scores aren't amazing enough to make them overlook that fact.
 
I'll join. My law school GPA's bringing my overall GPA down a bit. Stupid law schools grade on a curve. Too many students get straight C's, even thou it's considered competitive enough at my school for many top firms. Balance out my solid undergrad GPA with all the 2's on my law transcript... my overall gpa's really suffering!

I'd kill for those DAT scores! I think these days dental schools give way more attention to DAT's so i think your in better situation than me.

If you can, plzz let me know which schols did u apply. So far, I picked 22 schools, but I don't wanna apply that much schools. My scores in Pat are worse than ures. mine scores are

I picked AZ, columbia, florida, illnois, indiana, penny, uni of louis,uni of MA, tufts, creighton, nevada, NY; pittsburgh, tennessee,west virgina..but I don't know what r my chances to get in. besides, I am working on my personal state. still,ure appl is in. chill....

Hey, sorry for being off topic a little bit but uh... what's your deal? i see you're in/were in law school, you also seem to be interested in dentistry because i think i remember you posting quite a bit here and had like amazing scores or something, and you also have a 37R on your MCATs. Are you just taking your pick at this point?

No prob I applied to all those you listed but i withdrew from a few such as columbia. I also have case, ucla and ucsf i withdrew form a few others i beleive because of their cutoffs.

also dude you havea 19AA makes a big difference from my 17AA 🙁 your fine.
 
Hey Cohen,

If you're worried about giving the Canadian DAT in the middle of the semester why not give the American DAT (which is available in Canada)? I gave the American DAT in July at a prometric center (located close to York Mills Subway station in Toronto).

Really? I live right by York Mills Subway Stn - I didn't know that you could write the American DAT without crossing the border.
 
I want in the club. I feel like the only person from Texas without an interview from Houston.

Calm down. 🙂 The people on here make up the top 5% of applicants. That is a small percentage. Most people don't get 20+ DATs. Ever wondered why most school's DAT average is usually below 20? There must be students with DATs lower than 20 and DATs higher than 20 to be get that AVERAGE....
 
Is this a spin off of the UNDER 3.0 club? Seriously though, I think the under 3.0 club needs to be upgraded to the UNDER 3.3 club now. The times, they are a changing.
 
This should be the "low for SDN" stats club. If dental admissions were based only on the people from this site, my DATs would be below average. You all sound fine.

Okay here are my stats. Cumulative gpa 3.57, science gpa 3.4, and DAT 17/18/14 (bad). I have a ton of experience over 2 years, undergraduate research experience, 40+ volunteer work, Vice-President of Pre-Dental society, and much more. What do you guys think? I got invited for an informal visit to Louisville by someone on the admissions committee! Yes!
