I am a 3rd yr DO student with a 187 usmle with no comlex score as of yet. I want EM at an MD institution. What do I do now? for both MD and DO. I have asked Quinn, but I am looking for more opinions.

Thanks

Apply to a lot of places and have reasonable expectations. I would say >than 40 places at least. Of course if your COMLEX is great then just don't report your USMLE scores.

I would say 40 is conservative. Many programs won't look at you because you have a board score of 187. Some programs won't look at you because you have a DO. The combination will put you in a category similar to IMGs. Apply to 50 places and be willing to be veeery flexible with where you're willing to live.

I have heard that if I rock step step II it will kind of avenge my low step I score. Is there any truth to this? I am hoping that if I start studying in the next few weeks I will do very well.

thanks

I think rockin' the house on step 2 would help. But I agree with the above posts. At this point, you've got nothing to lose by working hard and 'avenging' your step one score. Go for it, and good luck!
