kaplan guy said drugs for inflammation (NSAIDs, DMARDs, antihistamines, PPIs), blood drugs (heparin, ticlopidine), endocrine (thyroid, reprod, DM, bone), cancer, organ transplant, parasite infections, toxicology and herbals were all low yield.

sounds too good to be true (that's a lot of info right there). is it??

I can't imagine NSAIDs, blood drugs, toxicology to be low yield!

hmm, i've gotta think aspirin and heparin are likely to show up given how extremely commonly they are used. They have some pretty classic effects, too. but i've yet to take the boards---i'll let you know in 10 days.

Parasite treatments and herbals are probably as low yield as you'll get -- if those drugs show up they'll probably just be questions that ask you to identify the drug. But NSAIDs? I can't think of anything higher yield than NSAIDs. You'd better know everything about them.

I think he meant "High Yield." Let's see...I bet 10% of the population took an NSAID this afternoon for their headache or arthritis. 10% sneezed and needed an antihistamine. Thousands were given heparin for DVTs and stroke prevention. Thousands took a cancer regimen today. 1 person got worked up for a parasite infection (misdiagnosis). Half of all elderly people probably took an herbal today.

No, he really did say LOW YIELD--my exact feelings. That's why I am not a big fan of these kaplan people.

Well, let's see...I got questions on cancer drugs, heparin, warfarin, aspirin, chelating agents, thrombolytics, clopidogrel, osteoporosis drugs, antihistamines, antiparasitic agents, transplant drugs, herbals I've heard of but don't know (and I know all the big ones), and many, many others...I think your Kaplan guy is seriously misinformed.

It's true, though, that you generally won't get more than one question on any particular drug. So in that sense, yes, it's low yield. But any drug in FA should be considered fair game, and as you can see by reading the compiled experiences thread, this year they are testing on a few drugs not in FA as well.

Can someone explain where the antihistamines are in first aid? I thought they would be high yield since they are so common.

All pharm is high-yield except for the brand-new DMARDs and other "-mumabs."

Alot of people want to 'look too deep' into the pharm thing. MEMORIZE FIRST AID PHARM. Nothing MORE and nothing less (truthfully, i got away without memorizing everything so mabye less).

blood drugs, endocrines, nsaids and antihypertensive stuff was ALL I saw drug wise. And one question about Meningitis and another about Cimetidine (...Cyber Kids Eat...)

hehe
