I know a guy who lied on his med school application about the fact that he failed several classes then transferred to another college and started new
this person did not report his failing grades to AMCAS or med school he got into

what are the repercussions to this guy if i report him?> anyone know for sure??

Well, if he lied and you can substantiate it, they may withdraw his offer of admission. It's a tough call.

He is now a 3rd yr med student and did not tell the school of his failing grades from undergrad from college A.

Now the question is can anything be done about it at this point and what are the consequesnces??

how long did you know about this dude?

If he is a third year, chances are he is capable of handling med. school. Otherwise, he wouldn't have made it past the first two years. Sure, he was a punk, but it looks like he has turned things around since failing those classes. Leave him alone. Anything that you do will be seen as extremely petty and selfish.

I guess I will have to contact the school to figure this one out...false information on application are usually grounds for dismissal

why would you turn him in?

As much as it sucks that he got in by lying, is it really your responsibility to report him and completely screw his future? I know he might have done the same to someone else, but do you really think it is worth it for you to share the same burden?

I say just let it go.

why would you turn him in?

Better yet, why would you solicit opinions on an anonymous internet forum when it looks like your mind is already made up?

I'm sure the school has too much invested to kick a student out.

I can't say I know of anyone personally that this has happened to, but I have heard stories (mostly SDN anecdotes so take it for what you will) of people being dismissed for ethical violations... This one would be considered pretty serious.

Schools will help you in a lot of situations but God help you if you cheat or do something "unprofessional".

Let everything play out by itself. If they never find out the guy becomes a doctor and saves lives. If he gets caught he will get thrown out of med school lose tons of money that he paid in tuition and never get into another med school again.
I am not condoning lying or cheating, but things have a way of working out in the end, and I am very snitching on people seems so juvenile (so does lying on a professional application).

I agree with this POV. I could maybe understand the motivation if you had lost a seat to him, but otherwise...why would you bother? It's not like he killed someone or anything.

I don't understand people like you. You ask a question, then wait several posts and proceed to answer it. Oh and btw, everyone on here knows it was you who pulled that stunt. Saying it was someone else is the oldest trick in the book. Why not just come out and say it anyway? It's not like we know your real identity anyway...

Do you ever get the impression that deranged Med Students like to come on here and make asisnine threads just to watch the pre-meds sit and spin?

I would do this. :hardy:

I just have to say that you are rotten to the core, you know that? Let us assume that your claims are correct. Are you right about disapproving of the guy lying on his application? Sure you are. Are you right to care? Absolutely not. From the sound of your post, you may not even attend the same school as he does or any medical school for that matter, so you are not required by any school's honor-code to report him and therefore his dishonesty is not under your jurisdiction. Basically, it's none of your damned business--especially since he's in his third year already. Pay attention to your own affairs. Remember, what goes around, comes around. I really believe that. You go and hamstring this guy, and the same thing will happen to you, and rightfully so.

My friend went out of state for college and got sick right at the finals and ended up getting a 2.0gpa or something. So next semester he went to a state school got got 3.7 or so and pretty much never it ever again. He applied for ibm internship which requires at least 3.5gpa and got it. People get unlucky sometimes and screw up badly at certain schools. I think my friend fell off his bike and was in a coma for a day and failed his finals.

I bet that guy would have gotten into med school even if he reported his bad grades.

Theres an old saying, "mind your own p's and q's."

Seriously. It's one thing to report a fellow student if you catch them cheating. But to report a 3rd-year med student for lying on his application when you probably don't even go there... that's just wrong. It's none of your business. He'll get his someday. And so will you, if you butt in and report him. Why waste time over someone else's issues when you could focus on doing your own thing? Lame.

You're seriously thinking about calling a med school to tell on a kid that lied on his app? come on man. where i'm from snitches get stitches worry about your own stuff.

OP: I fart in your general direction.

seriously.... what's the point?

I would say two wrongs don't make a right...what the guy did was crappy, but in the end he will get what he deserves, good or bad. Maybe you should put all this energy into improving your own application or volunteering or something...rather than bringing someone else down.

blackmail him.

👍 Great way to make some cash when you're a poor, strung-out resident.

But in all seriousness, I'll jump on the bandwagon and agree with everyone else. It's not up to you to tell on this guy. If anything, he's going to live the rest of his life paranoid; I know I would. All it takes is some maligned ex-gf or something who also knows this happened to report all this to the state licensing board years later, and who knows what could happen? Maybe nothing, but at the same time, maybe his license could get revoked, or something like that. This would put my stress level through the roof, I know that for sure.

The guy has f***ed himself over, leave him alone.

Yikes! Why would you want to be a catalyst to the possible destruction of someone else's life/career? How does this benefit you? Do you understand by reporting this, the school will have to use resources to launch an investigation... resources that could be put to better use?

But, but, but its the moral thing to do. We are on a crusade to save the world from evil liars! 🙄

Frankly, I'd like to give this guy an award.

By the way, there's no way this thread is legit. Sucks, too, cuz the blackmail thing would be so nice.

Why would someone confide in you about something that could get them kicked out of school? I'm not buying it. Either you're lying about the guy's story or you are the guy. If someone reported this to the school, they would have to investigate it. They can't just dismiss an accusation of fraud. And yes, you could...er...I mean the guy you know would either get kicked out of school or harshly reprimanded.

There is no way I would report the guy, but why is everyone jumping all over the OP for suggesting it? It is pretty messed up to get into med school by lying. He probably took that spot from another somewhat marginal applicant who was honest in his or her application and did not make the cut. And as for the "well he apparently turned himself around because he did not fail out so cut him some slack" argument, who cares? I would bet there are plenty of honest applicants out there who have turned themselves around and would make great doctors but do not get in who deserved the spot more.

At any rate, I think Meatwad is right. This guy will probably put himself through enough suffering knowing this could come back to him one day. I would just leave the whole situation alone.

the OP long left this discussion

but seriously, I question him and who he is. What kind of sick mofo is he? Who has that much wrath built up? Did the doc do something to him? Future back-stabber and 911 bomber, this OP.

don't poke at others unless your ready to be poked back at.

It's quite possible that OP was in a relationship with the said med student and after a breakup desided to screw up this med student's life. Why else would someone wait for 2+ years to do something like that? I doubt s/he just learned about the said med student's omission...

snitches are b*****s - i live by it; so should you 👍

First of all, it is incredible that the med school student could have gotten away with it for the past 2 years. If I were you, I'd leave the guy alone. As others have mentioned, he is a 3rd year and passed the hellish first two, and although what he did may be unethical, it shouldn't be your business to ruin his career and screw him over. He will get what he deserves in one way or another. Do as the cliche says.."mind your own bees-wax!"

i think the OP has a personal vendetta against the 3rd year med student, and just wants to know if reporting him would be able to do any real damage.
