Has anyone else considered this combination? I am very interested in pursuing the clinical side of academic medicine and think that I could benefit from this type degree. However, I don't know too many schools that offer both. Any help and/or school suggestions would be appreciated...

Here are the schools that offer the joint degree (and I've applied to):
-Baylor
-Vanderbilt
-UVA

Vanderbilt's website seems to offer the most info on the subject:

If you just want to see patients in an academic institution, you don't need anything but an MD. If you want to teach classes at a medical school, an MD/PhD may help (especially since many professors also do research) but it can be done with just an MD.

There isn't much demand for MD/EdDs whether from students or from jobs. I definitely wouldn't limit myself to just schools that did offer that dual degree.

To be perfectly honest, I have yet to see any job that hires people with dual degrees, that won't hire people with just one or the other. The only real benefit to a dual degree, besides bragging rights, is maybe some additional flexibility..maybe.

If you are interested in educational theory, or developing curricula etc. then you may want to pursue this. If you only want to work at an academic hospital (teaching or not), this degree won't help you that much.
