M.D. to M.D./Ph.D. reapplicant?

I applied last cycle and failed to score a matriculation spot. After talking it over with a number of people, it seems that my chances are much better applying for M.D./Ph.D. programs, since my largest extracurricular by far has been research. I was wondering if I'm considered a reapplicant if I only applied for the M.D. program last year (since schools make the distinction of whether you re-applied to their program in particular or just in general).
