Hello i'm 21 years old from Greece and I'm currently studying economics in university of Athens.I wasn't sure what i wanted to become so i decided to join economics because it seamed interesting.A personal experience motivated me to become a dermatologist especially in the research area.Should i finish my studies in the next 2 years and try to become a doctor in America or is it already too late ?I have relatives living in Pennsylvania.I would also like to ask how many years does it take for someone to become a dermatologist and how much does it cost.

Well it is a n uphill battle for foreign graduates, you'd have to apply for residency (to live here) and some medical schools don't even consider foreign graduates. But in order to become one, you need a bachelor's degree with the prereqs (General Biology I,II, General Chemistry I,II, Organic Chemistry I,II, Physics I,II) and some schools require you to have completed genetics and biochemistry. Then you have to take the MCAT and do a personal statement through AMCAS. Then you will have to travel to several interviews (if you get them) and pay a ton of fees. If you get in anywhere, then that's 4 years of medical school, during 4th year you will apply to your residency (in which you will pick your specialty- dermatology). Like I said it will be rough. Why not just go to school in Greece? But regardless, good luck!😀

American Medical College Application Service. AMCAS is a non-profit, centralized application processing service that is only available to applicants to the first-year entering classes at participating U.S. medical schools. Most medical schools use AMCAS as the primary application method.

MCAT: Medical College Admission Test - a standardized, multiple-choice examination designed to assess the examinee's problem solving, critical thinking, writing skills, and knowledge of science concepts and principles prerequisite to the study of medicine.

You need a college degree. I will assume you plan to move to America to get your degree.

4 years undergrad to get the degree
4 years medical school
1 year internship
~3 years residency
total: ~12 years to become a general dermatologist

You will need to have stellar grades throughout undergrad and a high MCAT(medical college admission test) score along with a good amount of extra curricular activities(hospital volunteering, physician shadowing, research, community service, interesting things to make you stand out like starting a club or playing a sport) to gain an admission to an American medical school.

Once in medical school, you will need to be at the top of your class and get lucky to gain a dermatology residency since they are ultra competitive due to factors like high pay and job satisfaction.

This is correct. Sorry I would have answered sooner, but I was busy. Your best bet is to get a medical degree in your home country and if you still want to practice in the U.S. then you will have to take the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exam) of which there are three parts. Like I said it will be hard, but keep at it and I'm sure you can make it!😀
