Hi,
I am an M1, just finished dev, anatomy, cell bio, and histology. Would like to review these subjects over break. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Fizzbot

You're honestly better off just relaxing.

You're a freaking MS1. Who even told you about Step One?

If you have to do something, get a BRS, in those areas, and look through that. But anatomy in general is not HY for the boards.

Right now, review whatever you're about to be learning if that's what you did when you were in undergrad. You could also get started HY cell bio if you really wanted- That's what I would if the power was off and everyone else in the world was dead.

I don't think theres a need to review a subject that you JUST got done taking especially when step 1 is a year and half away. If you learned it well the first time around, you'll recall it in a year fairly well. Now if you want to review some topics that you know you aren't too strong in, that's okay to do but to begin Step 1 reviewing so early isn't worth it.

Get you hands on a copy of kaplan lecture notes and a set of their lecture DVDs from ebay or bit torrent and watch the lectures for the subjects you've already completed. Chances are you're going to need them eventually so you might as well get it now.

I saw an M1 studying anatomy on the bus after the M1s have just finished an their anatomy final. Considering that 99% of people pass anatomy at this institution and I see the same person in the library studying everyday, I assumed that he passed. I had a strong urge to walk over and punch him in the face on the bus, but I refrained. 😡

Doesn't matter how much you review now, you're gonna forget it again anyway :meanie:.

Being halfway through M1 myself, I kinda had the same sentiments. But does anyone know when most people actually start studying for Step 1? Summer after first year? Or during non-existent spare time of second year? Just wondering. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

To the OP,
While your ambition is admirable...LIGHTEN UP! Seriously, as medical students, how many opportunities do we really get to completely shut down our brains for two weeks and enjoy life fully w/o the stress of school? Don't get me wrong. Even while class is in session, I always make time to work out six times per week, take time for long dinners, and go out on the weekend. But, to be able to take a couple of weeks to completely unwind and spend time with family and friends without the stress of medical school...bliss!

I don't know where people get the idea that year 2 is so hard. I think I had just as much spare time as I did first year.

The M2's at my own school tell me it's a lot harder, but congratulations; you seem to have the hang of it.👍

It depends on the program.

Our school is systems based, so everything feels pretty much the same. We did heme/onc first semester of MSI and had neuroanatomy/neuroscience in place of it for first semester MSII (which I thought was a lot easier).

Traditional block schedule schools usually introduce micro and path during MSII. So that being the case then yes, I think MSII would be considerably more challenging.

Just noticed this thread, had a funny anecdote to share...

Went to see the Bodies exhibit over the Christmas break with my folks...it was cool to see the beautiful dissections, but I quickly realized that while I visually recognized all the structures I saw, I couldn't remember the names for a good portion of them! Only two months since gross and its rapidly leaking out of my head!
