mac users?

so i've noticed that although only about 5% of the overall population uses macintosh computers, a high proportion of pre-meds and med students seem to be mac users. anyone else notice this? i certainly churned out all my secondaries on my trusty powerbook. i'd be willing to venture a bold guess and say as many as 10% of the pre-med applicants are mac users.

might it be because both macintosh users and pre-med applicants are highly intelligent people? perhaps. but then again, i could be completely out of my mind.

I've been a Mac user since 1995 at home, and I was raised on them in elementary school since 1988. I guess I'm showing my age here, but still.
They're great. Who doesn't remember Oregon Trail and MacType?

it may be lame, but i'm in the "i tried to ford the river and my ****ing oxen died" group on facebook

oh, and i bought my first mac last year. my pc dumped me and its physical memory of what we had together.

i also was raised on macs, as my uncle worked for apple in the '80s. my first computer was a black & white mac classic II, and throughout the 90's and 00's i've owned almost every incarnation of the apple laptop.

and yes, like everyone else, i remember using those old black & green apple IIe's at the ripe old age of 8 years old.. oregon trail was awesome, although oddell lake was always my favorite.

in all, i've owned a classic II, a performa 578, a quadra, a powermac 5500, a powerbook 167, a powerbook pismo, an ibook g4, and an aluminum g4. it's fairly safe to say that i'm a mac user for life.

i got my first mac in 1999 as a freshman in college, blueberry iMac 333 g3. moved onto a powerbook in 2002, still using it today. i cant wait till next year when i can borrow money for a new one. hopefully we can see a g5 powerbook by then.

I'd say that roughly 35% of the laptops in my classroom are Macs.

But the idea that this is because we're more intelligent is just funny. It's because:

1) We're too lazy to deal with viruses and stuff and want something simple, and,
2) Macs are stylish.

I love macs, but I've been a PC user in college (my dark years). I want to get a mac, but I also want a Tablet PC. If Apple comes out with one before next year, I'll be first in line.

Our whole bio department uses macs.... I would say they use them because they don't understand computers. Two of my bio professors posted lecture notes online and each file was about 30MB (I easily reduced the files to a dew hundred KBs). Macs are cool (especially the BSD based OsX) but you still need to know what you are doing!

Macs are simply an over-priced, stylized, proprietary indulgence for rich kids who think they're going to be the next Svengali.


Sorry about that, I have a little ipod rage issue going on. Seriously though, Macs are good for certain applications, PCs for others. I really wish Apple would relinquish its stranglehold on the PowerPC technology. I would love to have a G5-like computer in addition to my PC, but right now its too cost-prohibitive.
