I know a lot of you are probably done with school for the semester... unfortunately I am not, and have finals next week...which got me thinking. When you are accepted, and they put the stipulation on your acceptance that you must "maintain you GPA" what exactly does this mean?

Does it just mean don't screw up so bad that your GPA drops below what is is? Or does it mean you need to match you last semester (assuming you find out the last semester of your undergrad) GPA to your cumulative?

For example, let's say one has a 3.5 cGPA and must maintain it. Does said person need to just keep the cGPA around 3.5 (probably within in 3.4-3.5 range) or do they need to make sure their last semester GPA is near 3.5? I mean, if your last 16 credits of 120 total credits aren't quite up to par, and you don't get a 3.5, your cGPA isn't going to fall far from a 3.5.

This is gray area.... they don't define what "maintain your GPA" means. I believe they just want you to maintain your level of performance. Like if you are a solid 3.4-3.6 student, don't let your last semester fall to a 2.5 lol. Try to stay within that 3.4-ish range.

Again, this is just my interpretation.

They aren't going to rescind your acceptance unless you do not successfully complete your courses. ie don't fail.. As you said, your gpa is not going to drop that much. That being said, don't aim for 70's lol

Yeah, I have one prereq left, so I know I need at least a C in that or it won't even count. I'm not banking on doing bad and dropping my grade, just covering some what-if's as the last prereq is physics, and I suck at math haha. So, all my other classes will be A's or B+'s (more likely all A's) but physics is what worries me. I have a B in the class now but the final is cumulative and we didn't get much time to study since we just had a test last week (1 week before finals week) so I'm nervous about that one.

Basically I am just trying to see if I'd be alright in a worst case scenario, say I drop to a C in physics and end up getting a B+ rather than the A I expect. If that was the case my GPA for the semester would drop to about .15-.2 below my cGPA.

Stop worrying and just do your best. They aren't going to kick you out because you slacked off and got a B.

I agree with what has already been said and it sounds like you don't have anything to worry about, but I have heard of a few schools being strict on this...I would call the school and just check with them to be sure...

wasn't worried about the possible B haha more so the possible C in physics. I have plenty of B's on my transcripts... so they should already be expecting some

Hey I know how you feel! Lets just say over the last 2 semesters (I'm done with this semester already) I got a couple C+ grades and my semester GPA was lower. It really didn't affect my overall though. I just got accepted to Iowa less than 2 weeks ago...and upon reading the letter, I contacted the school...NOBODY wants an offer rescinded. Elaine told me they would be concerned if there was a significant decline in grades or failure of courses after acceptance...but also said a few passing grades (C/C+) would not be a problem. Hope this eases some worries!

That helps a ton Oledds, thanks! I think I can avoid F's haha at least I better be able to being this far into the semester with the grades I have 👍

I would say not to get below a C in any course.
