so those of you who will be attending USC, WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO LIVE??????? this issue is causing me so much anxiety. I want to live somewhere safe but clean and nice at the same time....price is no object.....some people say Westwood but I feel that it's too far and it's in UCLA territory....also I heard that the Medici apartments are not in a safe neighborhood...does anybody know???...any thoughts? advice? anything???? I'm not from SoCal so I really need help.....please!!!!!

If I end up going to USC I plan on looking in South Pasedena.

If price doesn't matter I would rent out a nice place in Beverly hills. I hear it's a nice place. But really i'm looking around the Culver city area- that way on the days we don't go to school, we can have great access to the beach and also be going the opposite direction of traffic to and from school. But hey, if you get any closer to finding out where you want to live, let us know so we can look into it as well.

How is the school housing at USC? I know it can't be great...but at least you'd be near the school. Anyone know?

I know a bunch of guys that live in the Pasadena area and a few that live around Culver City / Palms area. I have a wife and kid and I've heard those areas are relatively safe, if your single and money is no option I'd get a sweet beach apartment in Redondo Beach or Santa Monica.

Culver city is nice, but for real, there is no "opposite direction of traffic" for the 405 and the 10. However, if monney is no object, South Pasadena is very close to USC

the only problem with Marina del Rey area is the distance...I feel that it's a little too far, especially with the LA traffic....I'm thinking Westwood, Brentwood, or Beverly Hills.....it just feels weird living in UCLA territory....but Downtown and near USC is definitly not an option...I really don't feel like living around bums and prostitutes.....I think this is the biggest con about USC...it really breaks a part the student community..everyone is forced to live spread a part. If they take those millions of dollars they get from student tuition and take it to clean up the community around them this wouldn't be a problem....how could the most expensive dental school in the US be in the worst area possible???? it's so ass backwards!

I abolutely agree with you. living around USC makes me very nervous as well about what should I do..where should I live that would be affordable and safe! being a female, it is harder for us to find a safer place that a guy..if you guys have any suggestions please share it with us..

anyone looking to live near USC: my girlfriend still needs two roommates - she lives very near campus (it was under a 10 minute walk from the apartment building to the dental school for my interview) in a building with a security guard. she's had no problems there.

if anyone's interested, let me know and i'll get you in touch with her.

Is she also a dental student or not? and how much does it cost a month

I would be very interested!

Is she a grad student?
when would the lease start?
is it shared bedrooms?

I am a USC student. I live in a my fraternity, so I bring my advice with the utmost objectivity...

Some nice places in the area are:

The Medici (nice area, downtown, management is hard to contact)
The Orsini (nice area, downtown, management is hard to contact)
The Met (hear it is nice, downtown)

Loft living is booming in LA. Loft living is awesome. Check out the Pacific Electric lofts. My friend lives there, and it is gorgeous. There are a lot of other places that are being renovated, so check'em out.

There is a new building being built by Conquest housing on the corner of Exposition and Figueroa (google Conquest Housing and you'll find it). It is really close to campus. Next year is the first year it will be open.

Basically, you do not want to live South or West of campus. Living North is nice, and there is not much housing to the East.

All these people that want to live in Pasadena, Marina Del Rey, Westwood... you are crazy. Do you have any clue what LA traffic is like. As an undergrad at USC, if you can't bike to class, you live too far. As a grad student, if you have to get on a freeway to get to class, you are living too far. Get real guys, you do not want to drive an hour or more each way for school.

I wish you all the best of luck finding housing. PM me if you have questions.

When I was an undergrad at USC, I lived in the downtown area in a $h_t hole called promenade tower. NEVER live there, as tenants are treated like prisoners.

However, if you're intimidated by the neighborhood near USC, (which I was), I'd find an apartment near the downtown area.

There are TONS of apartment near downtown LA. However, they are pricey. But it's the same deal financially if you were to live far away from USC's campus such as in Westwood, La Brea or west LA in general where it's a hell of a drive esp during traffic hour.

If you think traffic is horrible in your hometown, wait until you get to LA to experience hell traffic.

If anyone is interested, I am looking for a female to live with me in South Pasadena. I have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath townhome. Only one bath has a shower, so that bathroom would be shared. I have my own washer and dryer so that you would never have to leave for the laundry mat. I live in a very safe neighborhood and it takes no more than 45 mins. (with traffic!!!) to get to SC. If you want more info, message me.

I am have applied to USC's Post-Bacc Premed Prgoram, and have my phone interview this afternoon. Any advise.

My fiance and I are moving to LA because he is in the Air Force. Any recommondations on where to live if I get accepted? The base is in El Segundo.
