I made the noob mistake of copying all the text in my amcas app from word. Because of this, theres odd formatting and little coding ornaments scattered innermitently throughout my app. To adcoms, do you think this is a big deal?

We see it all the time.

AMCAS specifically tells you in the not to copy from word processing software like Microsoft Word. You're supposed to do your stuff in it, then copy to notepad or some other program like that (without all the fancy fonts and stuff) and then paste to AMCAS due to issues like this. But if @gyngyn says they see it all the time maybe it's not a big deal? lol

Omg yes! So its not seen as a big deal? If i look stupid, at least I can feel stupid with a lot of fellow applicant

Yes, because it shows that for something as important as application to medical school, you couldn't bother with proof-reading it. Mistakes like that in the clinic kill patients.

I note that my learned colleague didn't comment on whether that it's ignored or not!

ok well I checked the PDF version, and everything looks totally normal.... 🙂

Can anyone verify that the printable PDF version is the version schools see?

I'm not in admissions, but I do give mock interviews. I would tell anyone that I'd automatically throw away their application. It's the most important document you have filled out so far for your academic career and you can't be bothered to format it correctly? Game over.

I'm pretty sure my formatting was fine. I cut/pasted from Word with the 'paste as plain text' function. The PDF version of my application (which is the only version AMCAS shows me, so far as I know) looked good, so I submitted it. I think this one's on AMCAS if so many applicants are having issues with formatting.

edit: words
