Say you wanted to transfer into pharmacy school after completing four-years in some bachelor degree program.........

What area of study has courses that are the same as those required for entry in pharmacy school........

Any engineering major with these courses???

Any major that requires chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology are ones that fulfill most of the pharmacy prereqs, that being said generally the majors that correspond best with completing the pharmacy prereqs and graduating in 4 years are biology, chemistry, and biochemistry

Well.........to be more specific.........

What major best fulfills the prerequisites for the Rutgers School of Pharmacy???

Any type of engineering major???
Any engineering major + a specific minor???
Anything else like bio, chem, or biochem???

No offense, but this is something you could easily research yourself.

If not, you should contact Rutgers and/or your school's pharmacy advisor.

I have friends in Bioengineering and environmental engineering that took many of the pharmacy prereq courses. You would be taking a lot of upper division biological systems courses on top of prereqs if you went this route though. Those courses are challenging.

I switched from civil (environmental) engineering to Biology when I decided to pursue pharmacy school. If I had stayed in the engineering program I would have had to take quite a few extra classes to get that degree and finish the pre-reqs for pharmacy school.

It all depends on the program at your school and the pre-reqs required by the pharmacy schools you will be applying to.

I am not quite sure what one would do with an engineering degree AND a PharmD.

Cell and Molecular biology is the most relevant major in my oinion to pharm school. I am double majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry (BS) and I am almost kicking myself for not majoring in biology. My biochemistry major - only requires 1 intro biology class as required biology course, besides that it's pretty much a chemistry degree. Pharm schools require a lot of biology electives - depending on the school - microbiology, physiology, genetics, cell molecular biology. Some schools require those classes with labs. So I have literally been slaving myself taking those classes - which some of those do not even count towards my degree even as electives. Had I majored in biology I would have had my pre-reqs done and graduated a lot faster. 🙁

The only thing that makes me feel better is that I am acing pchem right now and hopefullly can test out of it in pharm school - something most bio majors would not be able to do.🙂

Well........I've heard that Pharmacy school is VERY HARD to get into.........especially those at State Colleges like Rutgers.........thus.....in case I do not get accepted into any 0-6 programs, and I end up doing bad on PCAT and all..........at least I have the engineering degree.........which.......like pharmacy.........is a field i am interested in and wouldn't mind working in........however, i prefer going to pharmacy school........

I guess you can just say I'm trying to be as safe as possible..........Because if I major in something like Bio or Chem.........those degrees aren't REALLY helpful........the only thing I can do with those is become a bio or chem teacher.........and teaching is something I don't like to do........at least not for a living.........

So........in case I do not get into pharm school..........a major in engineering........such as chem eng..........will get me a decent paying job..........and i can even use that degree for masters and doctorate studies.......in case pharm d doesn't work out for me..........

Regardless.........my FIRST CHOICE is pharmacy.........

try to volunteer or get a job in health care environment like pharmacy tech for ex. because they look at that too .
