Hey yall! I have serious quandry on my hands and i was wondering if anyone could shead some light or give there two cents in on my situation. I just got an interview offer from UH Hilo and i'm stoked! Problem is it seems my dad won't help pay to send me to las vegas on the basis of the fact that hawaii shouldnt be a school i apply to and money is kinda tight. I was kinda rocked by this because at the start of the year he told me all was taken care of in the application process. I understand my current situation now but i need to know if there are other ways to still afford to get to the interview or just turn it down and pray that my other schools give me a interview. I knw that was long but i really need ideas of how im gonna pay to go there and back with now no backing!

If you're a candidate with good stats you might be able to turn it down. If not maybe you can get a loan from your father or friend and pay them back when you have a job.

You could try cheaper means of travel like a bus or train. You might even take a road trip.

Turn down your very first interview & pray another school gives you another? It won't be a wise decision. I don't know what to tell you but you definitely have to look for a way to make it to that interview. And I think you will, if you're dead-locked on going to a pharmacy school this year.

LOL, how he could make it to hawaii by car. :meanie:

Flights are ~$250. That's next to nothing. Donate plasma if you have to, but to worry about $250 is ridiculous.

I want you to be my friend. Also can you loan me a few next to nothings?

You can use a credit card. That's not always the best option, but at least it's something you can do. I met a candidate at an interview and he/she told me that he/she applied to 50 schools by using his/her credit card. I know, that sounds ridiculous. So, compared to that candidate, your debt is like nothing.

50 schools?! That is *****ic. If someone needs to apply to 50 schools to find one to take them, they should probably consider a different career. Unless they had some motivation other than an extremely weak application, but I'm not sure what that would be.

I second this. When I was interviewing for pharmacy school, I used Greyhound to get to all of them, even when I had to go from Joplin, MO to Morgantown, WV! Hella cheap, too, especially if you book two weeks in advance to get half-off tickets.

Flight Advice:

DO NOT look at flights on Kayak, orbitz or expedia....too expensive!!

Look at local carriers websites like Southwest, AirTrans, Frontier... I dont live in Texas so i dont know your local carriers. but either way, those tickets should be alot cheaper. I signed up for their emails so when there is a seat sale, i know ASAP.

Or if you have airmiles, or if your parents have airmiles = CASH$$$

Greyhound, or road trip with a friend is a good idea too (that way u can split hotel cost AND get In'N'Out! multitasking is awesome)

250 bucks is cheap, man.

Sell some stuff, donate plasma, or ask someone to borrow money.

Greyhound is an excellent choice as well. Much cheaper.
